The V8 is back: IS 500 F SPORT Performance

So after much deliberation, I finally decided to move ahead with purchasing an IS500. I called three local dealerships and got three very different responses.
Called the closest dealer to me first. The idiot salesperson told me he would gladly take my deposit but couldn’t guarantee a price since they didn’t know how much the car would cost. I pointed them to the online configurator but he still argued that the prices of the “packages” on the premium trim hadn’t been released so he couldn’t give me a final price. Told him to look at the damn configurator closely and see that there were no packages available on the premium model, that it came fully loaded. Finally he agreed and spoke with his manager who informed him that they would gladly sell the car at MSRP but I would have to pay the mandatory $5800 up-charge for “value added services” including tints, ceramic coating and other nonsense. I politely refused. They told me I wouldn’t be able to get the car at MSRP anywhere else since everyone was marking it up and at least with them I would get something out of the extra charges. Also, told me they were a “super dealer” and would get more allocations compared to regular dealerships. Was told they already had 7 deposits by idiots willing to pay for the up charge and that the two LE editions they were receiving were already sold. I thanked them for their time and proceeded to call the other dealership.
Called the second dealer and spoke with a salesperson who sounded tired and fed up. Told me they were getting two premium models which had already been spoken for and they weren’t taking any more deposits.
Called the third dealer and the salesperson told me right off the bat they were charging $10k over MSRP for non LE models, no value added services, no negotiation. I thanked him for his candor and hung up.
About to give up, I decided to make one last call to the fourth dealer. Spoke to an over enthusiastic salesperson who informed me that he could order my exact spec for me - the elusive Superman combo - USB on cheap fake leather red. Even confirmed with his manager. Told me there was a USB on black in production that would be arriving sometime in Dec and was available but I refused and insisted on the Superman combo. He assured me that it would be here by early to mid March and that they would sell it to me for MSRP + doc fees. Reluctantly, I proceeded with the refundable deposit.
I guess I’ll know come March if I’ll be getting an IS500 or not.

The "other dealerships are marking them up but we arent just making you take thousands of dollars of add-ons" seems to be the company line. I can't wait to show them the estimate I posted from the last dealership though.

Sometimes, Toyota/Lexus will improve their manufacturing process along different model years. For example at the end of the IS-F program, Toyota used a new structural adhesive formula and added additional places to apply those adhesives, therefore the last 100 units of the 2014 IS-F car body has 10% better torsional rigidity than the other IS-F.
I had a 2008 IS many years ago, and later a 2011 IS, although there is no officially documented structural change, I can tell the 2011 is absolutely more rigid than the 2008 one. So I do believe Toyota/Lexus does continuously improve their manufacturing, regardless they mention it in the press release or not.
With that being said, although I am not sure how Lexus will run the IS500 program down the road, opting for a later model year before its final discontinuation seems to be a better choice for me.

The pragmatic side wants more people to request it, because it’ll bump up the possibilities for us all. 😎
Side note, it should be called the Spider-man Spec. He’s much cooler.
Good luck!!

^^ I am happy to hear - I have my name tagged on one (LE that is) HOWEVER, my dealer is trying really hard to get me my 1st choice with is the F Sport Performance in White! While I love the Incognito color and the exclusivity of the LE, the black wheels are my holdback

I'd gladly trade the Base/Premium wheels for the LE

congratulations! I specifically requested the LE. I wanted those bbs wheels and the suede interior. I’m glad my dealer isn’t hammering me with extra fees. I heard some horror stories out there. Good luck on getting your dream IS500!
