Thank you. I have to admit I just bought a vehicle last year, that I ordered BEFORE the pandemic, in November 2019, and still had to wait a year for delivery. Also, I love the IS 500, and it will be my next car, but I won’t actually need it for about two years or so (luckily), so I am just going to wait and see how this all shakes out.
I also decided I am going to buy my next car online. I don’t see a reason to ever have to walk into dealership ever again. If Lexus hasn’t figured that out in a couple years, I will happily buy a used one on Carvana or something like that. I have had the thrill of buying a brand new car a few times, which is awesome, but not a necessary experience for me anymore, especially if there are online options!

I totally hear ya - We always have various experiences with car dealers and while I have heard horrible experiences, the dealer I have been dealing with has been nothing short of amazing!! To me, walking to the dealer is almost an enjoyable experience where I am being treated so respectfully, make small talk, even go out for lunch with the sales manager. I have always been fair to them but they have always been beyond fair with me and this was the same when I use to deal with Acura (from 2007-2015). Maybe it has to do with where I live or something, or maybe it is just my good looks (lol)

What?!?! Why is that? We can buy from neighboring provinces here in Canada...it would be different if you wanted to buy from a different country. Sheesh!?!

Okay, delema, Got off the Phone with the dealer..... Now asking 5k over MSRP on a Premium model I wanted in cloudburst..... Now thinking of telling them no and moving onto another dealer. Would you guys do 3K over markup for an LE?

^^ Personally, I would be very annoyed with markup especially that when you keep in mind that as the production starts ramping up, the levels and availability will stabilize and price should return to MSRP or even below. Keep in mind, if you make a 900$/month payment (example only), if you pay 5k market adjustment, for the next 5 months, assuming 0% interest, you'll be paying simply the market adjustment. So a person buying a car in May or so, if the market adjustments are removed, will be at the same point as you. I get that some people don't want to wait, can't afford to wait, or don't care about the market adjustments but combine a market adjustment and some of the frivolous accessories by the dealer and you are really being taken to the cleaner. I could see someone wiling to pay a little bit for the LE if it is your cup of tea as you will never be able to put your hand on one as the production ramps up again, but again, don't get caught up in the frenzy
My 2 cents which is only worth a penny in the US and for the record, I chose no to charge a markup on the 2 cents (lol)

In my mind, purely from a financial sense, anything over MSRP that you pay that isn't a physical add on is money that is never going to be seen again. If you get in an accident a few miles from the dealership, even if you can get reimbursed for depreciation, that markup you paid is not even going to be factored in. You automatically start underwater on the car while others are getting everything you received for less. In the end, this car is truly a luxury, and everyone is going to value it differently. There are plenty of other dealerships around (and plenty of other cars) where you can walk away from anything you aren't comfortable paying. This car is likely going to be a multi year run, so even if you don't get in now, you can get in down the road with a bigger down payment and better ground to stand on for negotiation, especially with Toyota saying they are full steam ahead on production.
If it matters to you, I've already told multiple dealers that anything over MSRP is a no-go for me, even going so far as to calling one dealer's markup absurd.

They have allocation for the premium? One of my dealers offered to take $1k down payment but didn't have any other details on when or what's arriving. He mentioned not knowing until around the 20th of December. But to answer your question, 5k or 3k is a no for me. I maybe could justify smaller "mark ups" for some extras. Like all weather mats or illuminated door sills but that's not even 1k.

I originally budgeted about $2k in add-ons; but over the last few months, the dealer shenanigans I’ve read have killed that. I do not need to be the first, I’ll wait if a markup is non-negotiable.

I really wanted and still do want a LE. Tempted to bite on it as this plans to be my last car only only new car purchase. I think 3k on a le I can do but not 5k on a non le

So after spending some good amount of time calling dealers in different cities, I was able to find an awesome sales lady who is getting me into an LE. They were given a 2nd one and I've got it. I have the spec sheet with the VIN and the purchase statement. Deposit put down and now it looks like I will have my LE in January. It's in south Houston, but I have to go there for work purposes anyways. Paying MSRP only. Very surprised I was able to get this. Also, I was working with the Lexus dealer in North Kansas City (who are great btw) and I spent a good amount of time talking to their Sales Manager last night who I had do an allocation search across the US. He said there were 343 LEs and 27 non LEs allocated in the US with none of them in the Central Region. Sounds like the Central region and Canada will get their LE's at the same time. I just didn't want to wait. You know, a bird in the hand. Stoked to get the LE not paying over MSRP. Last 4 on VIN is 1592. I wonder what number out of 500 that's going to be. Hopefully a cool number.

You guys are lucky to even have dealers willing to get one period. We have 3 dealers here in my area, none of them can (or will) tell me if they will even get one. Hell, they won't even tell me if they are getting more 350's in, let alone the 500.
