Just got a text from my SM that "his company will be adding a mark-up" and isn't sure about the final price. Man. I'm livid. Was promised there wouldn't be a mark-up. Guess I have to contact my other waitlists now.

play ball with them for now. When the car comes in, test drive the hell out of it, and then decline and ask for your deposit back

What a sleezy bunch - If they told you no market adjustments and now are applying one, I would be FURIOUS!! No wonder people have such a bad taste in their mouth about car dealership. I am fortunate that I have never dealt with anything like this in all my years of buying cars, I have always had great and trustworthy individuals. I recognize that times are changing but still...

I think I would stand on the side of the road with a sign saying "I have been lied to - stay away" (LMAO)

You can just put the dealerships here so others can stay away..

Also put a phone call / email into the GM and also mention Lexus Corp customer service has been contacted.. And you should contact them..!!

Your were promised A and now they asking for B

If they're asking for a markup, doubtful they'll let anyone test drive without a non-refundable deposit.

I totally agree and have heard of this happening. But then my counter argument to that is "what is the point of the test drive then?" Realistically you aren't testing anything. By giving a non refundable deposit you basically made that vehicle yours so its a first drive more than anything. Which is crappy to say the least because what if you genuinely don't like how it drives, or you detect that there could be a defect (car pulling, or anything along those lines)

They know they don't need to let people test drive the car to sell it. The same thing happened with Evo Xs they came to Canada.

not dense. But what does test driving have to do with removing the market adjustment?

No reason to abuse or put extra miles on the car. The new owner, even though they payed markup shouldn't be punished. Your beef is with the dealer.

I agree - No one should be able to buy a vehicle without a test drive to make sure all is good with the car and that they genuinely love it. That being said, dealers don't want to have a situation where people come in and take the car for a joy ride and to be honest, when I buy my cars, I wouldn't want anyone (other than the mechanic) to drive my car. To me, for these type of vehicles, I feel a mechanism should be in place to prevent abuse....Either the salesperson goes on the test drive to insure no abuse is done or do a sales contract which is not submitted until the customer who purchased the car can cancel it after the test drive. In other words, make the person go through a credit check, go through all the paperwork and such - I doubt a person would go through the hassle for just a 5 min car ride. To me, if someone told me I couldn't test drive the car before buying, I would walk, especially if I am serious about the car. In this case, I will not need to test the IS 500 .... I have owned 3 IS' (including this 3.5 Generation - See what I did there Arentz )so I know how it feels, how it rides, how comfortable it is and all the tech, all I am adding is a more powerful engine, different wheels, exhaust and a raised hood. Just hand me the paperwork so we can close the deal (lol)

Coconut - I agree with you, abusing the car will only hurt the person who will buy the car however, a person who placed a deposit and had their hopes on getting the car and waited this long for it, only to be shafted by the dealer, I can understand the frustration and how a person would want to 'stick it to them'. They were extremely deceitful and disrespectful toward the customer - While a dealer may chose to put a markup, be upfront from the start so the person can find another dealer to work with but I am wondering if a customer would have any legal recourse in such a situation, especially if it was said in writing (via e-mail or text) that no markup would be applied?
