I've had 4 new cars in the last 12ish years... my first ever new car was abused for over 200 miles before I purchased it. The salesman told me they would routinely take the car on lunch runs etc. and hammer on it. It was my first new car and I was too excited and ignorant to know anything about it. It ended up with the lifters replaced before 20k miles. I also had a dealer tech caught on dash cam joy riding in my C7. People abusing cars t hey don't own really strikes a nerve! I've already had the discussion with my sales guy for the IS 500 that NOBODY is to drive the car except the tech for PDI and to not abuse it. I just may request I be present for the PDI drive to make sure some tech doesn't have a good 'ol time with the new 5.0L Lexus that I'm paying $70k for (thanks CA taxes).
My IS F and GS F were at 140+ mph with less than 50 miles on the clock, by me. This silliness of "manufacturer's break-in" is way over rated. Your Corvette got screwed by less than stellar oil. You should read 540RAT's blog to learn why your lifters failed. It had nothing to do with someone "abusing" your engine, including you.

I run new engines hard right out of the gate, and I've built a few. Run it soft and you get an oil burning pile of crap. Run it hard and you get full power and low oil consumption. Up to you.

I don't agree with revving the crap out of an engine with no load though. That's just stupid.

I had the demands of I did not want any customers around the car or in it and only the tech to PDI it could drive it. I got there pretty much right after it was pulled off the truck and was actually able to talk to the tech that was sitting in my car getting all the systems started before it went to PDI. I asked him a favor for when he set the car up and he said he would try if the option was still in tech stream and he was able to actually fulfill the favor which made it even better.

By any chance was it disabling the sunshade from retracting when in reverse?

No, it was actually shutting off the seatbelt chime for it being unbuckled lol. I despise the loud ringing when I am moving it around in the driveway. I'm not trying to buckle up to move it around every time especially when it isn't even into the street

If revving the car for a promo video is going to cause damage, I don't want the car. I have revved every car I have test driven because I do care how it sounds. I would get it more if this was some fragile, limited edition supercar with a nearly race car style engine.

Hopefully you are all receiving your IS500s soon!
I ordered a set of studded Continentals so we can compare our winter driving experiences.

Up to you brother. No load revving is a great way to ensure the rings don't fully seal. But you can do whatever you like. Won't matter in 10 years, we'll all be driving electric because we'll have no choice.

I wouldn't sit there for 5 minutes banging off the rev limiter but I doubt one blip is gonna mess up the seals.

Yes lately I’ve seen several of these IS 500 videos where they are just bouncing off the limiter…
(the preproduction cars / reviews)

I’m like don’t they know how to let go of the gas pedal just before the needle approaches red line

Sample of feathering the gas pedal just before 6,700 rpm on my 2UR-GSE

Ha, I just realized your stock mufflers aren’t even hooked up! No wonder it sounds so awesome. Bet it’s loud in the passenger compartment!

Savagegeese helped to popularize the rev limiter bounce and Straightpipes followed suit. I personally do not think it sounds cool at all…

^^ I agree, and to be totally honest (and I'll likely get flamed for this), I don't really get the hype about car reviewers putting the camera by the exhaust and trying to make us hear the sound it makes. First, rare does the quality of the audio is able to truly capture the full depth of the sound, and also, the exhaust sound is not the most important factor to me. But that is just me....

On the IS 500 topic, it is interesting to see more and more youtube clips of dealers showing their cars - I saw a few last evening, one of which Carolina already posted They had called me to pose on the hood but I was busy and couldn't make it otherwise, that would have surely driven the market adjustment to 35k (lol)
