also, that $70-$90k (dealer marked up) car is still slower than $40k Tesla with higher depreciation.

I'm not going to compare the electric cars as they seem to be on a different price / performance scale. The IS500 is an excellent value near $60k but i'd be surprised if anyone buys it for $70k.

fair enough. I would buy 500hp M3 competition Xdrive for $90k all day long.

Well said. However if someone wants to pay $70k+, it's up to them. If they have the money, they will buy what they want, regardless of our opinion.

That is a little early to tell if you can do a custom order or not. They will put your preference in to the area office (most likely Lexus Eastern Area) and see if they will take the order. If the IS 500 has only two available builds lets say for example, base with no Nav and fully loaded with Nav & ML, you will probably have to wait longer for a special order. It typically takes 90-120 days to get an order in, plus a few more weeks of shipping. With the current state of supply chain issues and the major back up at the ports due to short staff of long shoremen/customs agents, it may take longer.

It's always good to have a plan B & C.

I'd pay up to $80,000. USD is becoming worthless anyways...

I wouldn't go over 70k for this car. Hopefully we get pricing info soon.

so, would you wait for the prices to go down if no one buys them at an inflated price? or hoping to get a slightly used one after the initial depreciation hit from the first buyer? I'm sort of in this boat as well. w/ tax and lic., I want to be at mid 60s and definitely under $70k.

I will not pay any dealer markup. That’s the bottom line.

You'll probably hear about pricing by this summer or at the end, usually right when it starts production.

so, I've been calling multiple dealerships around southern CA and most dealers aren't biting the "waiting list/deposit" game. it's nearly impossible to speak directly to any GM; several have not responded to either my emails nor voice messages. I was able to get on one other waitlist at a larger dealer that's quite far from where I live but they would not take a deposit and said I was unofficially No. 1 on their list. this dealer is owned by a larger entity and said they are not permitted to price gouge and at most they will markup about $5k. their GM stated that in speaking to other dealership GMs in CA, they will be marking up their IS500s about $20k. I may have to start contacting dealerships out of state. I think I'm done for now.

Calling the GM is probably the worst way to approach this...if anything that will just lessen your chances of getting on that list because a lot of people are doing the same thing.

Build your relationship with the salesperson you're buying the car from and go from there. Loyalty goes a long way.
