It may have been purchased as a business expense which the person could just write off. When it comes to the ultra rich, they don't care, there are no financial rules they need to follow. It's kinda like when you're ordering at a restaurant you internally debate whether you should splurge for a soda or not. Well for the ultra rich their internal debate is whether or not to pay a $30k markup. This time they did.

Might also be the case that a ready, willing and able buyer came into dealership and the dealer knocked down or eliminated the markup altogether. Unless the buyer speaks up and is not embarrassed to admit to paying such an absurd premium for a car that tons of other dealerships are selling at MSRP then we'll never really know.
Also I just got a call from the Portland Lexus dealership and they just got allocated an iridium silver on red IS 500 premium that is available at MSRP + a $700 gps tracking thing (due to arrive in three weeks or so). Have to be local-ish though. Wife unfortunately prefers another color. AutoTrader has pictures of a similar one at Thousand Oaks Lexus in California.

Yeah I am in Idaho but we have some property in Oregon - sounded like they just wanted to make sure it got registered in Oregon or the Washington suburbs near the dealership.

Ok, Rough estimate.... Out of the 500 LE's produce with a starting VIN of 501114 to 5001750 (Last known) there are 136 Non-LE cars for about 27% of them being non-LE's.
I have tracked down 446-ish of the 500 VIN's. Mostly missing you lucky Canada folks, US Territories, Hawaii and maybe the one in Alaska.
Alaska one was traded with Bellevue, WA and sold there
