On cold starts, how long do you need to wait before driving, or better yet, what level does the engine oil temp gauge need to show, and at what RPM does the redline need to start?

I noticed when I first turned it on today that the gauge didn't show the engine oil temperature, and the redline started at 4000-5000 rpm. Sorry, I never paid attention to this stuff with hybrids. Lol.

Just drive a little bit until fully revving, takes a little time for it to warm up.

I don't own the car, but I can say this - don't wait before driving. The engine and oil will heat up much more quickly if load is being placed on the engine.

I am guessing that giant, cavernous dungeon is where all their inventory used to be. Strange times indeed

Interesting commentary from TheStraightPipes on their RX review that the current touchpad and infotainment is better than the new NX infotainment system. This bodes well for us IS owners which basically has the infotainment as the RX. People say it's outdated but they may miss it when it's gone. Watch below.

After start up, 30-60 seconds before taking off is plenty… For normal driving..

For any “F Sport” driving , you need to make sure all the fluids are up to full operational temps..
Especially Engine Oil & ATF.
I guess your full rpm redline access also helps you see when it’s available

Cold outside temps take longer for the fluids to get up to correct temps.

Compromise - I know Jororo is waiting more information from his dealer and potential parts but there was a few others that I had chimed in - Just curious, any of you who reported the issue with the error codes, have you guys had your situation resolved, diagnosed?

Macmaster - I have said many times too, people complain about the IS interior being dated and I don't care, it works and works well!!! I hate the new trend of touchscreen features for everything and the new Golf R and GTI are an example. I know people want the latest gadgets and all but maybe I am old school or plain old but why replace physical buttons?!? I agree that in a few years when the replacement for the IS comes up, people will miss the physical buttons and will wish they would have kept them, but we'll see. That is why I am happy the IS 500 still uses the same interior and was delighted when the 3.5G IS came out without a major refresh inside....to each their own I guess

.
I drive 100% of the time in Sport+ (unless I’m in the toll lane), so I sit for about 5 minutes after a cold start before taking off. Otherwise the engine’s response is dulled and the gear shifts are choppy. This was the same in my old 2IS 350. I drove it in ECT PWR mode 100% of the time too, so I got used to waiting the 5 minutes. 😊

The fluid gets to the optimal temp in about two blocks.

Thanks for the response about cold starts. The reason I asked is because I live close to the freeway on-ramp, maybe 3-4 minutes away. At the time I merged my redline was like 5000 rpm and there was no oil level on the gauge. I prob hard accelerated from about 10 mph to 50 mph in normal mode. Now, I didn’t 100% floor it and I never came too close to redline, but I also didn’t enter the freeway like a normal person. I’m hoping I didn’t do damage.

From strictly an engineering standpoint, you are not going to damage the engine doing what you did. In those few minutes to the ramp, fluids are already circulating and your temperature is likely well above ambient temperature.
