Update on my CEL:
i took it to the dealer today, they could not figure out what was wrong. They pulled the data from the car and sent me on my way. While i was driving home, about halfway, same issue.
it gets worse, i noticed this clunking noise in the transmission when braking and going from second to first gear. Its subtle but definitely noticeable. I heard this noise on day one but i thought it was the road. However after testing multiple times, its definitely the transmission and its gotten a bit more pronounced.

Is this noise before or after the CEL comes on or both?

This time it was definitely after the CEL. I drove around trying yo reproduce it. What i noticed is it usually happens after a long (10 minutes) bit of continuous driving at 50+ miles and coming and then coming to a stop with moderate-light brake pressure. I hardly noticed it, if not at all, when cruising around the neighborhood. Ill do more tests tomorrow.

^^ Hope it is nothing serious but keep us posted.
I have created a thread and pasted your last update there because people who own the IS 500 may need to find some info if its starts happening to them and I find this thread is soooooo long now that trying to search in it is a bit challenging.

Now that my purchase is complete, I can fully recommend JM Lexus in the south Florida area.
They did mark up their LEs but weren't trying to hide it. They are selling everything else at MSRP, no add-ons, hell there isn't even a dealer doc fee or anything. I paid $50 for PDI labor I think.
I paid about $800 to ship the car 800 or so miles.
For anyone on the East Coast / South / Midwest I would seriously consider JM Lexus. You might eat a bit on shipping if you don't want to drive the car home, but it's not $6000 of add ons lol. They are easily a top 5 volume Lexus dealer. Probably top 3 if I had to guess, so they will have a steady stream of 500s. No deposit required, just a reservation list.
I did everything remote. Sales manager even overnighted the contract to me on work travel on the dealer's dime. That's like $200 to save 2 days on the deal, the little things added up when you're used to getting reamed by dealers.
E-mail Bradley Patrick to get on his list, say Zach sent you. I don't get anything, just helping ya'll out. 10/10.

Sound advice. I do feel a lot of jerkiness in the shifts in Normal mode. I’ve assumed that’s normal based on the “character” of the car the journalists have been reporting, especially since I’m used to CVTs.
