Did you decide to opt out of the 500 altogether or going with a different color combo?
Instead of getting the IS500 as my DD and keeping my 991 Turbo S as my weekend car I picked up some winters for my 911 and have decided to just use that as my daily. This way I can buy a more "impractical" weekend car. For now.... My SA told me to just wait until the IS500 comes in and see it in person before, so who knows. I have been spending way more time then I should thinking about this.
Joe Z is right about the premiums are definitely not sitting in the showrooms. They just get pre-sold the moment the dealer gets allocation. So far there's some dealer that does have LE and Premium but market is just very gouging like Oakland.
Oakland dealership has been by far the worst experience for me.
Today with about 900 miles on my odometer I bounced off the rev limiter for the first time. What a blast. I think I was going from 2nd to 3rd at around 65 or 70 mph on the freeway. Nothing crazy, but that sound....This car is definitely growing on me.
For those of you with 2UR-GSE experience, what amount/percentage of the time is it healthy to push the car like this? I don't want to overdo it or underdo it.

the owners manual states to take it easy for the first 1000km (621 miles)

I daily drove a 996 Turbo and then a 996 Turbo S for a few years. They're usually reliable (one of my Porsches was very problematic), get decent mileage and perform well. They're surprisingly safe. Service costs aren't too much different from most cars, but of course, tire cost is a bit much. My only gripes with the Porsches was that everyone wanted to race and the 996 Turbo/Turbo S was kind of a dog against many performance cars, from stock Corvette Z06s, Vipers, and anything from Japan with mods. Kinda felt stupid driving a car that claimed to be best, cost so much more and delivered so much less, but that was my own insecurity. Modern Turbo S models are far better.
One thing I like about the IS 500 is that it's nearly as fast as my 996 Turbo S but it's largely incognito. Only 600 miles in, but so far, one of my favorite overall first impressions of a car. I'd keep an open mind into buying one.

Anything can break, but these engines are pretty bulletproof. Most of the problems with this engine were with the early IS-F, like valley plate gasket coolant leaks and oil leaks. This engine can make a more power and redline higher, but durability was a priority when they thought out the engine's performance.

Thats very cool! I can’t wait to get mine, go through the break in period, and then let loose. 😈
I haven’t experienced the 2UR-GSE glorious-ness as a daily, but I’ve wrung the necks of both my IS 350s. Before the pandemic, my commute was 60 miles round trip. On most days I kissed 90mph+ and I never-ever had mechanical problems. The Lexus service dept knew my cars well, because I was fiend about the service schedule.
Keep the car serviced and you’ll be super fine. 😎
I found this article a few minutes ago. To me it pained the author to give the 2UR-GSE a compliment, but he couldn’t argue the reliability and quality.
I agree nobody should pay mark ups but I don’t believe many more are on the way. I just received an email this morning from Longo Lexus to “reserve your car now!!” and a list of their next few allotments. I opened the link, there were dozens and dozens of RX, NX, ES and some IS. Guess how many IS500s. 1. And this is Longo Lexus. It’s still a limited car.
Yes that’s correct… For Longo they have a waiting list for Premiums and they are selling them at MSRP..
Maybe this 1 allocation hasn’t been spoken for yet and/or nobody wanted this Black car here in Sunny SoCal

I don’t have any experience with this engine, but I would say push it hard every opportunity you get. What did you buy it for? 😂

After the recommended break in period, enjoy the 2UR-GSE as much as possible. Having to experience an immediate family member live through cancer twice and the privilege to work in an ICU, personally told me, tomorrow is not promised.
^^ That is the reason I am getting mine also, seeing my parent's health evolving for teh worse, it makes you realize we are not here forever so since I have the ability to afford one and to pay for the gas money to play, might as well go all out. Sure, the initial glitches made me pause to see if it would be best to wait a little as there are no dealers close to where I reside but in the end, I am confident that by the time I pick mine up in early April, all will be resolved...Sorry about your close family member go through that illness

Right on, right on. We are blessed to get it now, so why wait? Get it, love it, and pray to God we’ll be on this earth for MANY years enjoying it with friends and family.
