Well, time for Negative Nancy (aka Debbie Downer, aka Gloomy Gus) over here to eat some crow ... just got a call from Lexus Corporate and they're going to swap out the car.
And surprisingly my wife, who wanted the white on red color combo, said to get infrared on black, which wasn't even on my radar she had said not to get a 'flashy' exterior color (pic from a YouTube screenshot). I still love the white on red - extremely classy but subtle color combo.
That doesn't necessarily solve the issue for everyone else but hopefully they plan to take your car, inspect it hardcore in Japan with their LFA engineers, bring some out of retirement if they have to, and figure out the root cause.
100% agree. I am selfishly happy though that things are washing out given my poor past experience. Looks like 2022 Toyota/Lexus is a far different animal when it comes to doing right by their customers than 2008 Toyota/Lexus was, and I'm now getting the itch to replace my beloved GX with the new Sequoia come it's second model year.
As to the actual issue, their latest thinking is that the exhaust system was misaligned between the exhaust manifold and the downstream exhaust piping, so they recently realigned things in the hope that this is the actual fix that is needed. No idea if this is the 'cure all' as the car is still at the dealership. Regardless if I take it back while waiting for replacement I still won't be leaving the metropolitan area with it ... health conditions in my immediate family make it a potentially deadly situation if it were to break down in the horrible cell coverage areas of rural Idaho/Nevada/Wyoming/etc. I'll continue to trust my GX and old Land Cruiser for family road trip duties until the replacement comes.
Now that Lexus has my car hopefully they'll continue to use it as a guinea pig in order to head off future reoccurrences for future owners. Would be surprised if Lexus manufacturing wasn't now closely inspecting for this issue prior to new builds leaving the factory. Even if not the actual cause at least the closer inspection would eliminate one more possibility for future owners (myself now included).

Glad Lexus is taking care of you and that you get a color upgrade. Infrared on black is a great color combo and probably the best color on the IS500, closely followed by Ultrasonic Blue on Black. I would be happy with either of those colors.
