I do not know if it’s 100% true, but I’m totally okay with it if so.

If true I wouldn’t think this would be reason enough to send in-transit cars back to the factory. Seems like the port or inventory starved dealerships could knock out this exhaust finagling. But maybe they’re sending them back to get a redesigned exhaust system rather than just manhandling the existing design to work?

If they are in North America already, they may hold them up at the respective local Port servicing hubs.
Likely to receive the corrective actions to solve this once and for all on inbound units.. They have specialized Lexus Technicians at these locations that are heavily experienced.

At the Port they can take these cars apart and put them back together and you would never know..!!
@lobuxracer

There is no way they are going back to “plant” or Japan for that matter..

That would mean the ones in the Factory are already getting the fix on the production line now, before they get out on the boats..

^^ Dumb question for you Joe but would Canada have a similar situation, with Lexus Techs at the ports or somewhere to intercept the cars before they go to the dealers?

If they process PIO items prior to dealership delivery like the USA, yes it should be the same process..

It’s usually a processing hub for Toyota / Lexus vehicles… Prior to dealership delivery.

I know this for a fact, and I know this isn't the first time Lexus/Toyota have fixed a problem at the port of entry. As Joe said, there is no way they will return them to Japan for a repair. That makes no economic sense.

The factory doesn't fix issues unless it's caught before it rolls off the line. Same goes for cars that go through port processing. Your authorized Lexus dealers are the super professionals that know how to fix the car with the guidance of the factory reps.

No doubt about the dealer, but I have trepidation about the port skill set. I’m allowed. 😉

As stated initially, if mine was in-transit, I’d be okay with waiting if it was sent back to Japan for fine tuning.

I’d like to know what “port” actually means. I always thought it was a bunch of blue collar workers near the water that drive the cars onto trucks. Why would they know anything about Lexus cars or bother to care? But maybe port means a team of Lexus techs inside a Lexus garage near the water. I can’t imagine that though lol.

I have a friend who works at the toyota/lexus port and from my limited understanding they install certain add-ons or equipment - ppf, stereos, maybe spoilers? to name a couple I recall. Here's a some pics he sent me a while ago to help paint a better picture of the facility.

They are not limited to PIO. They've completely rebuilt cars when necessary. If you've read anything about the MkV Supra's first year production, you'd know about this.

He said they do send lexus techs to the port at times. At least it's not as crazy as the new M3 main bearing recall. That was also a port repair - opening up the engine or dropping the tranny... no sir.
