I too think people get hung up on the weight of cars. I can tell you personally before getting my 2020 rcf, ALL reviews pointed that it was a heavy car and it was slower than it's competition...etc. So after watching as much and reading as much as possible for a month, when I went to test drive a 2019, I was fully expecting a slow car. Then I sort of got on it and was like this isn't slow.. I left that night with my 2020 and then coming home, not having the car for more than 25 minutes I decide to get on it slightly on the highway. I look down and I'm going 120mph easily and it doesn't feel like it at all. Super smooth and planted. I was impressed. I told myself to slow tf down because I didn't want to get a wreckless driving owning a car for less than an hour.

I think as I get older I'm OK with a heavier car. These cars have MORE than enough power for the street. I totally get the appeal of having a 500+ hp car and after a while you get used to the speed/acceleration so it will eventually become slow again. But these cars are too easy to be cruising around the highway at 100+ mph and not even feel like you are going fast. Hell look at the speedometer on them. In a normal car when you are at 60mph or something along that lines you are up towards the middle of the speedo. If you are in the middle of the speedo on these cars you are already at 120-140mph...lol.

I still am not a fan of the back end of the new IS but I want to see it in person. I have a feeling I will like it more because all the damn angles of the shelf trunk back end are not appealing to me, so I'm hoping it's not as bad in person.

I wonder how this is going to affect the high values of the 08-14 ISF now... I assume they will drop significantly, as they no longer hold the title for the last V8 IS.

 

If you enjoy the 6 or 7 year factory powertrain warranty Lexus offers you need to accept engines will be used over and over. That’s how they iron out kinks...
I don’t care how old an engine is as long as it performs and is reliable...
the 2ur-gse 5.0L V8 is a beast. It makes just under 100hp/L which is absolutely amazing out of a N/A engine...one of the highest power to displacement ratios of any n/a engine.

It also sounds amazing, revs to over 7000 rpm and has epic Lexus reliability behind it.
I don’t know what else you could possibly ask for...
Lexus could easily make more powerful engines but reliability and reputation would plummet and that’s the core fundamentals of the company. Personally I find it amazing that in a time like this they go for one last hurrah and drop a big V8 in the IS.

You've driven the 2021 IS 500 F SPORT Performance to actually make a smart qualification? Sorry, there is no basis to that aside from a personal opinion.

 

If they go electric, I doubt it will be a performance version. Lets just be thankful they gave us the V8

^ Yeah, I actually don't like the stock wheels the IS 500 comes with. I'd rather them come with the 350 F Sport dark chrome or the BBS DHP wheels.

 

I don't see whats all the fuss over literally 100 pounds.

I'm going to compared my favorite V8 Lexus Sedans :

1999 GS400 (weight 3693 with 300HP)
2005 GS430 (weight 3715 with 300HP)
2014 ISF (weight 3780 with 416 HP)

2022 IS500 (weight 3891 with 472 HP) -- The IS500 weighs 111 pounds heavier than the last ISF with 56 more HP) -- I'm okay with that!

Its also: 176 pounds heavier than my 2005 GS430 with 172HP more -- I'll take that ALL day long... Please and Thank you!

The fuss is about Lexus totally missing the purpose of putting a V8 in a smaller chassis. It would be like if the great Carroll Shelby put the 427 in a roadster that was only 50-100pounds less than the GT500.

 

The V8 is only 143 lbs more than the IS350. Its not the V8s fault that the IS350 is a fat pig...

 

I’m blaming the chassis. The paper stats say the IS500 does 0-60 in 4.5 and gets 24 mpg. My “fat” GSF does that with more room and more materials - with an actual F-badge.

This car is going to get a lot of love but no one is going to buy it.

 

Really excited about this. I’ll almost certainly be picking one up. Already got approval from my wife, just need to see a price....

 

This will be significantly cheaper than the GSF though. If it's about $60k, I don't see why it won't sell. None of the F cars are spec kings...people buy them for the experience and the reliability. People just get Teslas if you want to smoke everything.
