I just picked up a new 2023 Atomic Silver over black (premium w/ BBS). I was interested in these when they first came out, but refused to pay ADM. Less than 2 years later I got a $7k discount. It's not my favorite color, but I like being understated, and this pulls that off. I'll post pics later. Of course we're forecasted to get our first snow of the year tomorrow, so it may be a few months before it gets any serious mileage.
I lived in Chicago my whole life (up until 4 years ago) and winter driving with a RWD vehicle is not fun, more than the snow it is the black ice that will get you. Also the salt is an undercarriage killer.

Yet back in the day, most cars were RWD. After my brother and I would gallop into the rear seats (no child seats back then), my dad would throw whatever extra weight he could in the trunk to enable better traction . Roads back then were not plowed and salted like they are nowadays. You could have 2 weeks straight of ice covered roads. Also, tire technology was nowhere near what it is today. But we were able to get around. But for sure, not fun, and a good set of winters on the IS500 is absolutely must in the North if you intend to drive regularly in winter.

Very true, when I started driving in the 60's all the cars were RWD and somehow we managed. Also a good point is that the technology today with tires and transmission settings make it a lot easier. But if you live and drive in winter conditions why buy a RWD daily driver when there so many good options for the ice and snow?

And that's why the IS500 has been a bit of flop here in Canada. There have been many sitting on lots for extended periods. I remember when I bought mine back in April, I had the choice of 5 different colored ones scattered across the city that they couldn't move, and this was at the ideal time to sell heading into summer. Eventually, an enthusiast shows up and picks it up, but that's really it. Didn't really cost Lexus anything to try and sell a few IS500's in Canada, so why not. And of course, if you slap on good quality winter tires and you are skilled/have experience with RWD cars, you are fine. I only take mine out every so often when roads are clear and temps are reasonable since we have other vehicle options for winter.
