Glad you mentioned that. That’s where I’m struggling right now—leave Summer on till colder weather and get Winters or just go All Season right off the bat and manage through colder weather and snow/ice.

I just figure I can sell the Summers better the sooner I take them off right..?

In KY where we get maybe 5 days/yr. of any snow/ice, but the surface temps do get COLD for several weeks.

It seems weird to me to buy new, all-season tires for a nearly 500 HP car just for 5 days of snow and some cold surfaces. It sounds like you'll have what, 300 days or more a year where summers are fine.

I’m hearing that even without snow or ice, Summers are slick when road temps are low—is that right? We don’t get a lot, but it’ll be very cold for a while during the winter.

Right, and for those 65 days I’d rather not have to deal with loss of traction. Maybe I’m more nervous than most!

Move to California. You might be homeless, but at least you don't need to buy new tires.

Low, as in, below freezing - yes. I use summers year-round, but I don't drive mine in below-freezing temperatures unless it's an urgent case. 40 degrees F or above seems to be where the tires are "happy". Below that, they do start to struggle a little off the line. There is even a noticeable difference between 40 and 60 degrees. Also, pavement temp is important. Even on a colder day, I have more traction at 5 PM than I do in the morning, since the sun has had time to warm the pavement up.

Great info thanks! Yes I suppose loss of traction due to acceleration is OK, I just don’t want to be in unsafe territory for 65 days of the year during normal
driving.

What area of the country do you run your Summers year round?

Atlanta, GA metro area. We don't have the worst winters by any means. We don't get snow most years, and it doesn't stay below 32 degrees F for long.

I will put the Michelin Pilot Spot All Season when these summers are done. I could be driving the car from March to December when roads are dry but the temps are often too cold for summers....

Yeah leaning that way too. Manage through cold weather until they can be replaced. If it’s bad enough around here for A/S and Snow Mode then likely not on the roads anyway.

I am surprised from Saturday night it was dry around 65 degrees. 3-way dig race: IS500, 2021 AMG C63 sedan & Giulia Quadrifoglio. I let off around 80ish had like 2 cars ahead of the AMG & 3 ahead of the Alfa Romeo & I am still on the crappy Potenzas.

I don't doubt the IS 500 would keep up with those if they were caught off-guard, but sheesh. They were racing, right?

I am surprised too because before the light turned green I launched around 1,100 rpm. Also I believe from the factory the AMG has built-in Launch Control. It wasn't engage or else I would have heard it.
