Decent review. I always chuckle at the manual shifting segment of all reviews. Most do not understand the upshift is only fast when you’re above 4k RPMs. Otherwise the car is in Dr. Jekyll mode.

This guy said the brakes are “squishy”. I’ve almost never heard this from other auto journalists. Since I don’t have one yet to say for sure, I must ask.. are they actually “squishy”? Or is it that maybe the press car he’s using has “squishy” brakes from brake fade from other auto journalists abusing ever loving ***** out of it?

No they're not squishy. They're not particularly communicative, but they're fine.

+1, I'd say they are firm, not squishy. But they require a bit more pedal travel than some other cars I've driven.

I agree - overall, the guy did a good job at highlighting why this car is so special - The fact he said the 8 speed was one of the best in 2013 but is now a bit behind the time shows that there is nothing wrong with this tranny except maybe not as quick shifting as others. To be honest, I am hard pressed to find anything wrong about this car but I do admit the brakes are likely the one thing I wish was just a bit more grippy. They do stop well if you need to press hard on the pedal and they don't seem to fade but I just wish the bite was a bit more aggressive and not have to push as much on the pedal. Overall though, I feel this car is a GEM!!! It offers everything the IS 350 does so well and just turns the power up a notch, and does so with a team of musicians playing the most beautiful symphony.

If any of you out there who are ready these forums are on the fence about this car, I assure you that you will not regret owning this car - especially if you already own a Lexus IS (2013-2022)...

I think the description is off. I think he meant the traveling distance before he felt the brakes bite in.

1. I think the brakes were grabbier (had less travel) in my 2016 IS 350 FSport, but you adjust.

2. Brian Makse commented on the soft brakes, but chocked it up to hard driven miles and track work by journalists.

3. Matt Moran commented on the soft pedal as well and said it was not confidence inspiring when he first got in.

4. Out Motor Sports described them as ‘wooden’ and when I compared them to my 2016, I can see what they’re saying.

I also noticed the brake dust is next to NOTHING on my IS 500 compared to my 2016. Don’t get me wrong, you quickly get used to the brakes and it becomes second nature, but there is something different compared to the standard FSport brakes. I don’t know if it’s the two-piece set up or a different brake pad compound, but that’s my experience.

Oh most definitely. He was not that kind with his first bite at the IS 500 apple, so it was interesting to see him almost make a 180.
