It is always nice to see a IS 500 video but I was a bit disappointed from this one because it is really not a fair competition and really has no purpose IMO. I understand they all have V8 but still, totally different beasts and if you recall, some of the V8 in the 1980s would pump out 160 HP, so because it's a V8, doesn't mean it should be treated as equal. I feel this video focuses on something the 500 is never designed/intended for, which is straight line acceleration. This is a sporty sedan with about 160HP extra for those who wanted a bit more than the 350.
It's a cruiser that still runs, but proves your point. Not all V8s are created equally, plus forced induction adds another layer of variability on top of that.

Agreed. My cynical and defensive side felt like they did it just to take another jab at the 500. Their review of the 500 seemed like they didn’t even want to do it and were very disappointed with it.

There have been a few that have left me with the same sentiment. Bottom line, they’re wrong and the zero inventory proves as much.

Jack gets why you would buy one, it has character!

Yeah it seems to me that he should have hit the shifter earlier therefore have less overrun or just leave it in auto mode. But he said what I felt and was missed the first video on the track. It is a daily driver with character and sound that is increasingly rare in a compliance vehicle these days. The harping on the interior I don't get either as it is a driver focused interior. I personally have loved this interior when it came out in 2014 and the technology updates on the 2021+ platform are all I wanted. I don't desire any more "features".

I also think he harped on the transmission a little much. The "shifts slowly" comment is just factually incorrect. There may be some delay in the paddles, but it's not horrible, and the gear changes themselves are still incredibly quick - not quite dual-clutch, but pretty much on the level of a ZF 8-speed. I do agree it gear hunts sometimes and can be a bit dopey, but Jack made it sound like there was nothing good about it.

I agree - maybe it has to do with expectations and such but I never had any issues with the tranny....The brakes are my weak spot

I agree with @Bechtold and @arentz07 on the interiors. Went to a Kentucky Derby party Saturday and was shot a dirty look by this guy when I let his wife sit in, crank, and rev my car.
Granted, she did say the words: “Oh dude, you’re in trouble. We’re going to the Lexus dealer this week, I’m sick of my Subaru!”
In between revs, she expressed how much she loved the look and feel of the interior. Reviewers want change for change sakes and that’s not Toyota/Lexus’ way.

I LOVE the physical buttons. By comparison, watch some reviews on the new VW Golf R and other Germans that fully rely on the display. That’s a deal breaker for me, and it’s a brand new car. Every German I’ve ever driven (Audi, Porsche) had maddening controls. Ours are not too many, and what we do have is laid out just right.
My wife has a Hyundai Palisade, and while I think they’re fairly easy enough to use, it’s nowhere near as intuitive to cycle settings on the fly compared to what we have, yet still far ahead of any of the Americans (I’ve had to rent both Chryslers and GM’s in the past year for work). When it comes to driver controls, simplicity is king and the Japanese brands do it better. Add comfort to practicality and you have a winner. If it ain’t broke…
If I had to objectively come up with a complaint, just for the sake of it, aesthetically I’d like to see a sportier steering wheel. Maybe some carbon or fiber elements similar to the F models. I would also prefer true metallic shift levers behind the wheel instead of plastic. It’s a tactile thing, purely a nit pick preference.

It seems many reviewers don't have original thoughts. They read/watched somebody with a bigger audience say it so they say it too. For some reason being negative must work on YouTube because everyone is negative these days. All the "TeN ThiNGs I HatE ABouT MY LamBO!!@#×" click bait **** gets on my nerves so I stopped watching their channels all together.

There can be some of that but there are also the personal biases that we all have. Some of those biases could be newest tech is always better, though I would disagree. Some new cars with touch everything are off my list. Like others have said this has buttons and switches, so I can change things without staring at a screen. I never found the trackpad or the mouse to be an issue but hey there is a touchscreen too.

Having no convenient way to change the preferred following distance for cruise control is kinda a joke when the XM is supposed to be a tour de force of BMW's capabilities at the moment. Not to mention, the driving experience is so digitally-augmented that even the exterior exhaust noise seems... wrong.
The IS has none of that. It is an honest car.
