that would be awesome but if all that needs replacing is a gasket there’s no way they’d upgrade the whole exhaust, lol, especially if this problem becomes common. Also does Lexus even make an upgraded exhaust for the IS500 yet?

Default New issue

Now that I made it home without the CEL coming back on. I thought everything was all good. I popped the hood just to marvel at the engine but after closing, the hood open alert stays on. I’ve tried opening and closing multiple times with no success. The hood is definitely closed but I think the sensor is bad. Anyone had this issue before? Or how to disable the constant beeping and alerts until I can get it serviced?

I know this is a different issue from the main problem of this thread but if anyone has any advice or a different thread dealing with this topic, please let me know. So frustrating because I can’t drive it without a constant beeping and alerts.

I think I am getting lost on the topic to fix the CEL with an aftermarket exhaust ??? LoL

If you roll up to the dealership with a CEL and they a troubleshooting OEM issues, no dealership in their right mind will introduce an NON Oem component to this equation...!!

Same applies if you roll up to the dealership with an aftermarket full exhaust and have a CEL.. Not only will they document it, they will charge you the diagnostic fee, troubleshooting and costs for repairs (if any). Not covered under warranty.

They are starting the with cheapest fixes first, then working their way up.
Yes correct, the simple fixes will be the replacement of OEM crush gaskets, then O2 sensors, then OEM mid-pipe and of course the pricey OEM manifold(s).

Also, not seen or heard anyone report a code other than P013A - which is only LH side for Bank 1 Sensor 2 ..
No reports of codes for Bank 2 Sensor 2 for RH side.

What are the Possible Causes of the P013A Code?

Here are some possible triggers of the P013A engine code:
  • Faulty oxygen sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
  • Wiring and/or connector issues
  • Malfunctioning catalytic converter
  • Leaks in the engine exhaust
  • An issue with the PCM
  • Engine running too rich or too lean

Looking at the above list for a BRAND NEW car, you really have to wonder how much more is left to change of physical parts if they are found to have manufacturing defects from the OEM parts supplier of said gaskets, or Denso for the 2 sensors and the companies that make the mid pipe or manifolds.
Especially, if there are deformity issues on lining up flanges..

Bummer, you can try un clipping the connector and re clipping it to see if that solves the issue. ?
Or it made need a new mechanism or re alignment if there is an issue with the striker inside the Hood Lock Assembly in your photos..

@AmbyBomb The gaskets have been good working carry over parts already in service.. What "could" have happened is if the supplier changed on how they are making the parts and/or maybe they are not to spec.. Same for the O2 sensors.. There is no surprise that car manufactures reported supply chain issues when builder their cars to spec.. (not just chips).

Just my .02¢ You're over reacting.. Lexus will come through on the fixes.. I can imagine your frustration levels are HIGH.

But once all the kinks are worked out, you should be able to enjoy the IS 500 worry free for a long time to come.

I don't think you're overreacting. Do it. You could probably get more than you paid for it at this point. Do it before the value of the IS500 plummets on 2022 models once the world finds out how unreliable they are. If you can get a good deal maybe I'll follow suit.

Is yours still good? You had your car fixed already right?

It's good. Been good for the last 1000 miles. Maybe the tech took out the lightbulb behind my CEL. LOL.

Watch them recall my car though, and make things worse.

I fixed it! There was about a 1 mm rock jammed underneath the metal piece that covered the sensor. I had to use a screwdriver to put it into lock position and then I used a little paper clip to knock the rock out of the way. Such a random series of events for a tiny rock to work it’s way to the exact spot to cause such a huge headache.

cbroccoli - To be honest, I feel what you are saying. I haven't purchased mine yet and reading all these issues and such has taken the excitement out of this car for me too. My 2021 350 F sport has been bullet proof and checks pretty much everything minus the V8 but I may pass TBH. The other option is I may wait for the 2023 instead and try and do a custom order to get the combo I always wanted. Seeing the white on white in Miami sort of rubbed me the wrong way and all the CEL issues, while nothing major, just adds salt to the wound so I may just wait it out.

Mine is supposed to arrive in a couple weeks so when I go to see it, I will talk with the Service Dpt and if they tell me there is a TSB, then that may be different but I am not driving 4h and then get here with a CEL code and no dealer around which is going to be a PITA.

I think you can assume if you buy a 2022 Is500 now it’ll have the CEL. Seems like 50% now.
