I would strongly recommend to still have the dealership document the CEL and it’s likely stored in history..

Just because you don’t have the CEL triggering, does not mean the exhaust gasket still isn’t leaking..

The leak could still be there, but not enough to have the CEL come back.

I've put on about 450 km since the O2 sensor was replaced and the CEL hasn't returned. I assume that I've either been lucky, or the exhaust was tightened when the O2 was replaced.

Just an update from me guys, my CEL came on when the car had 80kms on the odo. Car went to get fixed at 550km.

At first the service advisor changed the O2 sensor despite me telling him atleast 10 times to look at the flange seals instead. But guy knew better so I had him go with his fix. CEL came on within 50kms on the way back. Apologized a lot for not listening to me earlier and changed both flange seals on one go the next time.

I am at 4000km now, no CEL so far.

I think a required qualification for a Toyota/Lexus master tech is to be as stubborn and self-absorbed as possible. I don't know, I've never read the exact job posting, but they never seem to want to take advice from anyone. When I first had the CEL at the time we all thought it was the O2 sensor too. I asked the master tech to check that out and the service department's response was basically "no thanks, we'll diagnose the vehicle ourselves." Lo and behold he found the issue brilliantly via the exhaust.

If you tell them the sky is blue, they'll tell you its red.

Going forward I would strongly suggest telling the techs to replace the O2 sensor. That way they'll say no and checkout the exhaust instead. LOL.

I agree, the dealer has to follow the direction from Lexus to perform repairs, but I am just surprised that given the amount of documented success on these gaskets that Lexus hasn't issued a TSB on it by now, I mean it seems that this fixes 95% of the reported cases (on the forum anyway).

On a side note, if I tell them the sky will be blue, they better listen because that will be a battle they will lose (LMAO) - In the tradition of DLPTony, #Don't question the wthrman (LMAO)

Eventually they will issue an LSB hopefully… “Lexus Service Bulletin”

@AmbyBomb did they ever replace the gaskets as that is likely the root cause..

The O2 sensor was never really the issue….

They didn't. They've ordered it but no ETA.

Silly move by them… That was the root cause and the leak triggered P013A for the O2 sensor..
It is also easier and more cost effective to go with the gaskets 1st.

Make sure you ask them to replace both gaskets… As they are one time use crush gaskets if they don’t know

Unfortunately they only had one gasket in stock so it wasn't an option when they replaced the O2.

I drove 15 min on the freeway today and when I parked I immediately noticed a pool of liquid coming from the middle of my car. Is this bad? Is it related to the exhaust and the fact my gasket was never replaced?

Middle could be A/C condensation related, was it hot/humid?
Does it look like water?

its 60 degrees now and I didn’t have the AC on. I have a few errands to run and will check the next time I park. Now that I think about it it would have had to drip a lot in a short amount. Maybe it is from the last car?
