IS 500 aftermarket exhausts
#647
I have a 992 911 C2S delivering Monday for go fast track stuff - almost matches the LE IS500. The 500 is my daily and mods are done for pure pleasure/enjoyment.
You love your 4 finger wheel gap? LOL
It drove me absolutely insane looking at it every day. And the sewing machine noises coming from such a glorious sounding V8 should be illegal.
Okay, called RR and now the RR Racing is installed. They use Flowmaster mufflers, and in quiet mode with valves closed, is the way this car should’ve come from the factory. Sounds 10000X better, and still sounds like a stock vehicle. Love it.
I have the trunk ripped apart, tapped into the brown lower wire on the amp, confirmed I have good power and ground, and the remote doesn’t open up the exhaust valves??
I’ll try calling RR when they open Monday.

I guess window tint for the heat and similar mods are stupid too then?
Agreed, too many people being rude for no reason at all. I guess toxic/unhappy people can't help but spread it online as I'm sure they do in real life.

Exhaust is done. Taking it on a test drive soon.
So on the IS500, it’s not the brown amp wire, it’s the baby blue one. It is constant power, not accessory
FYI

Just finished installing the Apexi resonated midpipe. Key takeaways -
1- six of the 14mm bolts are at an odd angle - get a flexible extension bar set to make life a ton easier.
2- just get the loaner oxygen sensor socket set from nearest Autozone (or buy complete set for $20 from Amazon). I bought an oxygen socket and it was too short so had to make the trip regardless.
3- jack it up high and use plenty of jack stands. There’s some contorting required to get the bolts torqued down to 41 ft-lbs making more elbow room very helpful.
4- a low power 1/4” torque wrench speeds things up big time.
5- I installed new OEM gaskets up front, used Apexi’s in the middle and reused the factory gasket at back. Keeping the Apexi front gaskets in case I get the dreaded CEL.
6- would’ve been very easy install if it weren’t for two largish underbody plastic panels that had to be removed in order to get the cross brace out so the old midpipe could be removed without cutting it up. There are ~ 8 bolts & screws on each side. Definitely didn’t help that started late afternoon yesterday when it was 25deg outside while rocking a belly full of donuts & pizza.
Very easy to describe how it sounds inside the car …now, with ASC completely off, it sounds like it sounded before in Sport+ mode with ASC turned all the way up (without the artificialness, of course). Basically, as many others have said, it sounds exactly as it should’ve in the first place. Overall very happy with how it turned out and happy that get to keep the factory exhaust tips.
Before and after video below with decibels. First half (OEM) was about 40deg outside, second (Apexi) it was about 36deg. Across the board it’s about 6 decibels louder with a much throatier tone.

Valves open is absolutely amazing on-road. There is no video out there that will ever be able to replicate how amazing this Lexus V8 sounds once it’s unrestricted from the stock system.
I’ve been on circuit track/driven some of the most amazingly sounding cars out there (GT350, Ferrari 458, R8V10+, 992 GT3, 718 GT4, etc) and this Lexus V8 is really up there.
It blows my 2020 Mustang GT 5.0 completely out of the water. The 5.0 Coyote will never sound this good.
If anyone is on the fence about the RR Racing system, I would highly recommend it. The option to close the valves and return to almost stock sounding, is perfect.
Not sure I’ll keep the valves closed much though.

I'm going back and forth on the GTHaus and RR exhausts. I want a valved cat back for sure. I've been looking at sound clips but I can't really tell if the GTHaus is worth the 2k price difference. Any suggestions from owners or people who have heard both in person?

I will say that GTHAUS is our best seller and no issues to report.

I only got the axelback myself, not the whole catback, but loud enough for me once valve are opened.
If closed it is a little louder than stock and has more of a deep growl.

Yes I can also confirm it's the baby blue wire. But as mentioned, it is a constant power, which I prefer over accessory.

Was it just the mufflers included with the axleback or do they provide additional piping for everything to bolt up to existing piping?
I want to avoid cutting.
