IS 500 aftermarket exhausts

Just picked up a spare stock mid pipe from a fellow local forum member. I also happen to pick up a MIG welder as well because I've always wanted one. I'm gonna chop up the mid pipe in 3 sections and see how removing each will alter the sound (resonators, center, secondary cats). Sort of a learning project in MIG welding and to see how the tone changes. Alternatively, I was thinking of getting the Borla mid-pipe and fabricate it to work with the stock mufflers (with all stock connections).
I called 2 local exhaust shops to ask about helmholtz resonators and j-pipes and neither gave me confidence they know anything beyond welding metal together. One was like "we'll have to try different things and see what/if it works". Yeah, not sinking any more $$$ down the drain. I wish I had a local shop that know what they're doing scientifically.

I would experiment with an X-pipe in place of the secondary cats, a few members have done that and all seem to be happy. I personally had the cats removed and just straight piped it in place, it added a some volume and a little bass, but wanted a bit more.
My catback invidia uses an x-pipe and think that is part of the reason this exhaust is higher pitched and has minimal drone.

My best advice to anyone looking for an exhaust, link up with local members and ask to meet in person. Your deciding factor shouldn't be online videos and online reviews.

No prob! Have you joined the Atlanta Lexus Owners fb group? I'm going to setup a meet soon and I think some other members of that group have the Borla or other exhaust options, so you might be able to hear a few of the options together.

Out of curiosity, very MUCH only curiosity, anyone here with the Novel cat-back exhaust? Hearing it on video with the valves open, holy crap is that nice. Valves closed is stock sounding. Just curious how that translates to cabin noise.
Still, it's $8K

I don't know what else to say other than give the Revel Medallion a try. The stock mufflers are just too good at reducing sound that the midpipe alone didn't do it for me at all.

Ain't that the truth. And no, I don't need you to tempt me further I'm already in talks with Mod in Japan.
I can sense you've got the bug. You had a taste of the wonderful sound of this engine with exhaust. It's impossible to go back as I well know.

Beautiful! I love the F1-like exhaust notes. Did you do the install yourself?
With that said, I did a very bad thing yesterday. I ordered the Novel catback exhaust. Yes, I got a taste for what this car should sound like and I can't enjoy it as much with the stock exhaust. Headers will be a future [very future] possibility when I've long forgotten how much I paid for the Novel catback.
