Also depends on whether you plan on replacing the mid pipe. From comments made about the GThaus for other Lexus models, I get the impression that it is very loud with the midpipe.

Found a picture that shows the APEXi exhaust actually has an H pipe.

I loved how joe z's exhaust sounded on my 3IS and how they sound on all IS, RC and GS F models! so I'm hoping that one will be available for the IS500 soon! The apexi and gthaus are nice, but just didn't grab my attention like joe z system did. so for me, it'll either be joe z or HKS if/when ever they become available.

I have my cash ready to go. Can’t wait to get some more options.

It is loud; I went valveless so it is open all the time. Sounds like a GT Mustang Does a big engine justice. No drone though!

Comes down to individual preference. I think they both sound good, but I like how subtle the APEXi system sounds. Still, as 18borat and Joe Z mentioned, something with an X might add that little something extra that might be missing, and give it a more throaty sound. The APEXi system doesn't look like it's connected.

We'll have to wait and see what other companies have in the works for the 500.
The APEXi has and “H” pipe.

These aftermarket midpipes all seem to exclude the secondary catalytic converter. Doesn't that make it illegal in CA?

are they cats or resonators? Either way CA would whine about it. Haha! But I think I’d still be carb legal without them. Noise wise, may be a different story.

It is illegal here without a visible CARB sticker No secondary cats will never be legal here.

Big difference is you don't have to have your windows inspected by a technician for a pass/fail every 2 years after the car is 6 years old.

I'm learning about all this exhaust stuff just now. Here's a decent look at the belly of the IS500 from a youtube video. I've labeled the parts to my best knowledge from my limited research.

And here's a RC F aftermarket catback exhaust. You can see, no secondary cats on the midpipe. I do like how it's cut/separated where they would normally be, unlike the stock RC F/IS500 which looks like one huge piece which probably wouldn't fit easily in a car. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

I installed a cat exh system from Joe Z on my mk3 IS f sport and the set up was similar to the aftermarket system you posted. If you’re asking if the fit during install was an issue, it was not. It’s actually more “sleek” design (well Joe Z was). It fit perfectly without any modifications to hangers or other mounting points. Hope that helped answering your question.
