Default IS 500 aftermarket exhausts

So when are we going to get some aftermarket IS 500 exhausts? The stock exhaust is unreasonably quiet, need some noise

Hey all, as promised, here’s a video with a decibel reader that shows stock exhaust and the GTHaus axleback differences.

I set up the car in an enclosed 2 car garage, the iPhone 12 is running the Decibel X app and is placed on the ground at 12” away from the center of the rear bumper.

I’ll eventually do interior sounds and flybys later on.

I will say, interior sounds are obviously louder but not obnoxious. It seems to peak at 6th gear but then goes quieter afterwards. So if you’re cruising, it’s very mild and only slightly louder than stock, even with exhaust valves open. When you WOT, you will hear it and it will sound glorious! This is what it should have sounded stock (imho).

Edit: For anyone wondering, if you turn the car off with the valves closed, they will stay closed. (If you have the remote switch) you can open the valves even if the car is turned off, but you can’t close them again until you turn the car on again.

I've been looking at a muffler delete that keeps the resonators to prevent drone. It sounds good on the RCF at least. Opens it up a bit without being obnoxious. I tormented my neighbors for years with previous cars lol.

Listened to some muffler deleted that kept the cats and resonators. Sounds pretty good, might end up going with that

When i was looking at GSFs a couple years ago i was also looking up exhaust modifications. I found replacing the mid-pipe produced the sound i wanted. They said there was next to no drone and it opened up the sound nicely. i also personally liked how the exhaust looked stock from the outside as well.

Once again I'm looking at exhaust modifications before i have even bought a car (searching for caviar/black at MSRP).

Is nobody going to comment on the test vehicle being Grecian Water?!?!

Also, it doesn't sound too much louder than stock. Might be a nice middle ground between stock and GTHaus.

Which exhaust sounds better APEXI or GTHaus? Sounds like those are the 2 only options at the moment.

does the midpipe here have an x pipe integrated? From my research an X pipe makes this engine sound really really good. That is why the Borla exhaust for the RCF was one of the best exhaust out there.

Agreed… From the pics I can’t see if their pipes join..

Back in the day we engineered the perfect sounds & performance for the IS F / RC F / GS F with our siamese X Pipe design. Borla came out way after that…

Additional sound characteristics are also controlled by the type of Resonator & Muffler designs.
How long, how much packing material, baffled vs non baffled… etc etc

For example we used different muffler designs on the IS F vs RC F & GS F based on application differences on bumpers and exhaust tip diffusers.

I was trying to be good and focus on the exhaust only. Lol. GW lovers deserve a break now and then.

Comes down to individual preference. I think they both sound good, but I like how subtle the APEXi system sounds. Still, as 18borat and Joe Z mentioned, something with an X might add that little something extra that might be missing, and give it a more throaty sound. The APEXi system doesn't look like it's connected.

We'll have to wait and see what other companies have in the works for the 500.
