I called and sent pics to Lgec@lexus.com as directed here. A case number was started and the brand adviser looked into it, made calls to the dealers, etc and told me that corp was aware of the issue and is working on a solution to give them a few weeks and they will get back to me. Almost month has gone by so I called only to find out my case number is closed...WTF
That sucks! That is KIA level service.

Definitely no way to treat an enthusiast.

Took car in to the dealer for first oil change. Showed them the gap and talked about how lots of people with IS 500's have this issue. Dude asks another service guy if he saw that on his IS 350, guy says no. Proceeds to talk about pulling up to curbs and scraping, ofc I haven't done that. I explain how it seems to be an IS 500 issue, so he took pictures and told me he'd let me get pics of the underside when they get it on the lift. Takes me back there, zero scuffs or scratches on the underside.

Only point of all this was so they can document and I have pics showing the underside is pristine. The car only has 2500 miles ffs. Lexus needs to get their **** together and come up with a fix.

Sorry to hear this, and it is really sad it is still going on. Is your car a 2022 or 2023? This problem was one of the things (the other being the exhaust gasket problem) that had me on the fence with getting this car. Could be I might still pull out. Thank you in advance.

I am paying to much money for this problem and the lack of communication from Lexus corporate with it's dealers on the issue to happen. As of now, I still plan to buy it. With no dealer anywhere near me it makes this a bigger problem. Perhaps the 2023's coming in have been accommodated with the required fix. I am hoping so.

I'd stay the course man. In early 2022, while my IS500 was in for the CEL issue, the same dealer had another IS500 towed in from hundreds of miles away (Montana to Boise) when it's exhaust gasket failed. So the distance to a dealer is annoying but they take care of it. And personally, despite my particular situation, I've had a great experience with both Lexus corporate and the local Lexus dealership (even though I didn't buy from them). Cannot sing their praises enough but it's very clear others weren't so lucky - seems a knee jerk reaction to blame a separating fender on the customer, but once made aware of how widespread this specific issue is the dealer should immediately back off and just start the repair process rather than double down as many of them seem to be.

Also the exhaust gasket failures seemed to stop for the last batches of 2022s once they figured out that many of the early IS 500s had a misaligned exhaust system that was causing our exhaust gaskets to fail.

Overarching issue seemed to be COVID shortages forced Lexus to use different, unproven suppliers ... rumor is that, despite huge demand, the 2022 IS500 production ended because they just couldn't source enough fuel pumps of all things.

Really no other issues for the IS500 other than the fender separation and guarantee Lexus is inspecting every fender clip prior to installing at the factory. So if I were in your shoes I'd happily jump at this car now that all of us guinea pigs have flushed out the annoying problems.

Mine is a 2022. Also had the exhaust gasket issue with mine, which was whatever since I ended up installing a midpipe anyway.
The car is great otherwise. Wouldn't let those small things stop you from getting one. Just annoying having to deal with this on a new car.

Hey guys, I reached out to lgec@lexus.com and spoke to them on the phone twice now. (once on 10/19 and once again today 12/2)

No fix yet on the apron separation. Any of you have any luck?

Still just a single example but after 1000mi I still have no sign of separation or movement. I got one of the first '23s.

Im having similar problem expect my car is 2022 Lexus es350 f sport. No damaged to the bumper whatsoever. There is a gap on the driver side on the corner of the headlight.

Hey @happyrider , have you tried asking in the ES - 7th Gen forums? It may well be a similar issue but would like to keep the model-specific discussions contained as much as possible.

So are we going to just accept a bumper that will always be separated? It has been a year now. How long does it take to engineer a solution for something as stupid as this? Lexus's customer service is blowing my mind right now.

^^ If the 2023 bumpers hold in place, I would say that the "new clips" have been improved and one could always order a clip from a 2023 model (providing you can find a VIN # as everything now is ordered by VIN) and have the dealer install that. I am still wanting to wait until the 2023s have been out a bit longer and see if the problem starts developing.

Wow ok just finished this entire thread....Wowzers..

1) Lexus dealers have mistreated a vast majority of you all. That is poor customer service.
2) felixcat/sirlion is a troll and clearly has no idea how to decipher simplicity vs complex (Its the clip bro. Its always been the CLIP!!)
3) I cannot believe there is still no TSB or that some of you are still having to jump thru hoops still on this issue.
4) Glad to hear they're finally "working on it" and Lexus Japan knows about it now.

5) Sorry you all are dealing with this. The atrocious customer service by most dealerships as mentioned by many of you above is overall, unacceptable.

I don't care if its a 20k dollar car or a 70k dollar car. It shouldn't take this long for a simple defective clip to be discovered as the culprit and further delays on IS 500 owners actually getting it fixed. I am wishing you all a speedy fix on this!!!!

I think checking the condition of the apron after break-in period and also a couple thousand miles of spirited driving, pulls, hard accelerations off the line, and curvy roads will show if your apron will hold up or not. This apron issue is literally what has me on the fence from buying an IS 500 and it doesn't seem like Lexus has admitted or addressed it yet.
