This is one of the highest output, highest revving 5.0L V8s out there and people are wanting to maintain it like a Toyota V6. I don't get it.
It's an old engine designed by one of the most risk adverse manufacturers out there. Toyota is notorious for over engineering. It's not a high strung engine. It's rev limiter isn't that high and it's output isn't that high either. Both Ford and Chevrolet have done better, and that's just two examples. The current Z06 revs to 8500 and makes 670 HP with a 5.5 liter engine - about 30 hp more per liter than our IS500s. You don't own a Ferrari or Alfa Romeo that requires constant upkeep just to start in the morning.

If Toyota says you can do 5,0000 miles on the oil, doing an oil change at 3,000 miles is just lighting money on fire because you're worried it might get cold later.

Very, very well put. For dang near all of us, this overengineering & understressing approach is why we didn’t instead buy one those German brands that seem to be engineered to only make it through the manufacturer’s warranty period (anecdotal exceptions of course exist).

Besides, our 5.0 only makes 10% more HP/L than a 3.5L V6 Camry … hardly setting the world on fire when it comes to power density. No real reason to treat it differently when it comes to maintenance unless you’re driving either like a 17yo.

::slowly raises his hand:: #Guilty. 😈

If I’m effing with someone (totally frustrated a 440i this morning), I’ll easily sit at 6500 rpms and egg them on. So I stick to the maintenance schedule and my service rep will ask non-direct questions to ascertain what else *should* be done based on my shenanigans. 😜

I’m approaching one month in the car in about a week or so. My question to all of you is that in the Lexus App, there is a 1month or 1,000k service for the car. I tried booking an appointment through the app but it’s not there.

Did you all take to your dealer for 1month or 1k service?

I embarrassed a CLS 250 a couple days ago, didn't even break 5500 RPM to put 3 cars on him by 60 😁 Allegedly, in Mexico. He needed a bigger number on his trunk to keep up

I took mine in for it, they reacted kinda confused by the service request but did it nonetheless. Now that I’m researching what it entailed don’t really see the point of having done it.

I said “you all” to get input from multiple owners in the thread. Glad you decided to speak for everyone, but I’ll look to see if anyone else wants to chime in.

thank you for a real response. That’s what I was thinking, I also don’t want to waste one of the first two free services on something as basic as this so I’ll prolly skip until the 6 month.

That car has what, 250 or so HP? Bragging about that is like Mike Tyson bragging that he beat up a 5 year old child.

You're right, I paused the universe so I could look up all the info about the car then decided what the hell, I will go for it and brag about it on the internet. Or maybe when I hit 60 (the speed limit on that road) and he did a ricer fly by I saw what car it was and still decided to share a little fun. My mistake, no more fun sharing, strictly business and oil science from now on.

Dude, it's right in the name of the car. You're already bragging about street racing, the least you could do is make sure it's actually brag worthy.

Speak for everyone? You asked a simple question and I gave a correct answer. Some people did it, some people didn’t.

This thread is getting chippy. I love it.

Perhaps you didn't mean it this way but just to be clear, the two free services is inclusive of the 1K mile / 30 day inspection. Skipping the first service does not mean Lexus will cover the 5K mi / 6mo and 10K mi / 12mo services.
If someone has actually experienced something different, would like to hear about it.

Here's what is in our Warranty and Maintenance book:

Every 5000 miles for me...I drive somewhat aggressively, and have put nearly at 20K miles after 10 months of ownership...
