Default Non OEM tire sizes

Hoping to have a thread dedicated to alternative tire sizes for our OEM rims and alternative wheel diameters as well.

In my case, I sifted through the 3rd Gen IS forum to research the largest tire & wheel combo that we could get away with on our IS500s. No great answers as many IS’s were lowered, bagged, or had fender linings cut away.

Plan would be to run 245/35-20 up front and 285/30-20 in the back (on Rohanna RFX17 rims). The rears will be 0.4” taller and 0.8” wider than OEM, and the fronts will be a similar 0.4” taller and only 0.3” wider. No plans to lower or bag my ride and definitely want to avoid the tires rubbing on the inner fender.

Any advice or experience would be helpful. Especially as it comes to rim offsets and sizes used that actually did lead to rubbing.

(Edit - going with two sets of wheels & tires so that I can run dedicated snow tires on the OEM wheels).

Most of the ISF guys, including myself, were running either 245/275 or 245/285. I never encountered any issues. My suspension was stock, but one of my good friends lowered his just slightly but never had fitment issues either. Neither of us did any bodywork to accommodate tire sizes either.

Ya was finding a lot of good info for the IS-F and other 2nd gen ISs. Sure they’re pretty similar to 3rd gen, but still not having much look getting solid info on 3rd gen ISs as most with larger wheels are also bagged/lowered and cut into their inner fender liners, making comparison pretty tough as don’t want to put car in a situation where I have to cut fender liners to avoid rubbing.

I was running 255/35/19 and 295/30/19 Bridgestone S04 on RCF wheels on my ISF.

On the IS 500 FB page, Frank kept the OEM wheels, but pushed the amount of rubber installed.

I put 245/40 and 275/35 Michelin P4S All Seasons on the stock wheels and they fit fine, been like that for 5k miles

Awesome info !!! Both of those sizes would be within +/- 0.1” external diameter and same width as to where I want to go with the 20” option.

Now just time to decide between bronze or silver RFX17s … @Sanguin22 and Jesse at Dolan Lexus had the great idea to tint the front bumper’s ‘L’ logo in a bronzing tint so that the radar cruise would still work and the silver L wouldn’t be clashing with the bronze wheels.

I went with Conti DSW06+ in 245/40 & 275/35 on stock wheels, chose the DSW06+ due to weighing significantly less than the Pilot AS4’s……Overall pretty satisfied with the DSW06+, though I’m perceiving some high speed sidewall flex in the rear, the 275/35 DSW06+ may need a 10” or greater rim width.

This is a handy resource for playing with wheel offsets. https://willtheyfit.com/
Their guide isn't up yet, but at least one local wheel company has 3D scanned an IS500 and let me know that it's absolutely not got the clearance of an F car such as in their existing guide, https://support.apexraceparts.com/hc...-Fitment-Guide
The safe space to play with mimics the IS350 with maybe 5mm more fender-side space (but need to get final figures).

I was a bit surprised by how little clearance between the front wheel and suspension there is from the factory. So from knowing that, you should avoid any wheel that goes inboard towards the suspension more than stock in the front. The rear there's decent room to play with.
Since I just want a mildly more aggressive fit, I'll be going with this setup: https://www.vmrwheels.com/post/lexus...te-graphite-19 - mounting Michelin AS4 w/245/40/19 Front and 275/35/19 Rears.
Essentially it's bumping out the OEM wheels by 10mm front and 15mm rear. I'm not a fan of super-flush or poke.

I like the wheels you posted above Jororo. Like this color more. Heck, it may be the same color bronze.

Any idea if a 305 on an 11-inch wide wheel will fit?

Assume stock suspension.

Doubt it since that's 2.5 inches wider than the stock wheel. You can check the ISF forum to get a general idea on fitment.

I should have been clearer. 9.5-265 front and 11-305 rear. Probably a pipe dream. Even if the 305 would fit, I can't find an 18 inch tire that that I like. If I buy wheels, I am going to 18s.

I also should have done my math better. It's 1.5 inches wider than stock in the rear, and a 40 mm wider tire. I think both front and rear will be, at best, a super tight fit. I thought that there's a wide PF01 setup that ISF guys used.

Michelin AS4
245/40/19 & 275/35/19
The tread and section width are significantly wider than the OEM Bridgestones (which run narrow).
The wheels are exactly this: https://www.vmrwheels.com/post/lexus...te-graphite-19
I would prefer an additional -1 degree of camber in front. The rears are fine.
I did a few compression tests and there's no issues with clearance to the fenders. They do get close to the fender liner under near max steering lock, but it clears with ~1mm, which is plenty.
