It's just a concept that's gonna be shown. It's meant to demonstrate all the new stuff in one package. There will absolutely be lower-end variants when it's released.

Man, that would be sweet. No doubt they have a few engine options up their sleeves. I'm not concerned with competing against Benzler and Bummer, just a quick reliable sports sedan and an open top would be gravy.

Also, am I the only one who catched this? The PRODUCTION LS460 is gonna make its debut at Detroit in January!! That's a pretty quick two months from a concept to a production car eh. I know Henry's gonna fly there to report first-hand for us.

i find it strange that lexus is introducing all their cars at detroit and not saving anything for NY or Geneva or Chicago

b/c...so far we have the IS Concept, ES and LS...i wouldn't be surprised if they pushed the LS premiere to Geneva or NY since it will be closer to launch date

and thanks for pointing that out...i didn't see it

Any chance for a hardtop convertible ala SC and SLK? I hate the ragtops.

^^^
What I've read says that it's a hardtop, Lexus doesn't do softtops...too unreliable.

I think the IS coupe would be mostly V6, not V8 to eat into the SC's sales.

Lexus Prepares V8-Powered IS Concept for Detroit
TAGS: 2006, Concept Cars, detroit, is, japan, lexus, v8

Edmunds Inside Line is reporting that Lexus is going after Germany’s M-, S- and AMG-powered sharpshooters in the sport sedan category with a new eight-gun of its own. The company is preparing to unveil a close-to-production IS concept powered by a 5.0-liter V8 producing 450hp, which could spawn a new IS 500. That engine is an overbored version of the 4.6-liter V8 powerplant of the new LS 460 flagship, which will also debut in Detroit. That alone oughta bring the January temps in Detroit from aught minus to something like the freezing point. Ugh.

Default Wow!

I wonder if Lexus will make a good decision and make it available with a manual transmission? I still wish the IS350 was offered in a MT.
