convertible top getting stuck
Hey all,
I just bought a 2010 IS350c and I had a weird problem that was driving me nuts for the better part of a week, and I thought I would share this in case anyone else has a similar issue.
I got the windows tinted and in order to do it the shop had to put my convertible top partially down with the rear window in the trunk. This is when my problems began... The dude installing the tint was leaning on the plastic carpeted cover in the back just below the rear window...I figured this out later when I was cleaning some greasy hand prints off the carpet.
The next day I put the top down, but whenever I tried to close it the small plastic tray assembly that moves up and down during top retraction just behind the rear seat covers kept getting stuck. It would click when I tried to put the top up and the system would fail. It seemed to be hitting the plastic cover below, but it wasn't clear what the problem was.
To make a long story short, I figured out that the rear carpeted cover was slightly bent and after some gentle bending at the top edge everything improved again. The plastic tray assembly clearance with the carpeted cover below is pretty small and if some numbskull bends the piece you might run into problems too.
Hope this story helps someone in the future, because I spent the better part of 3 days troubleshooting.
