Default Temptation to buy IS500

I love my IS F and it has been the best car that I've ever own, but ever since the IS500 came out, I've been thinking about 'upgrading'.

I finally got a chance to drive one and it was exactly what I was imagining - a bit more grown up, with more features, and more power.

Has anyone else been tempted?

There is a dealership nearby that allegedly sells at MSRP and I've been seriously considering it.

Seriously, I love the IS F and tried to get one for a few years but when the IS 500 came out I wanted it more. Buy an IS 500 and keep the IS F an option?

In a word, no, I have not. I'd love to get a wrecked GS F and put all the GS F stuff in my IS F though - except the TVD. That would not make the trip over. I like the Giken better.

That was a thought. I have had two cars (2017 BRZ, 2000 WS6) while simultaneously owning the IS F, but I think my days of owning two cars is over. Plus, now I have more limited parking.

GS F was on my radar as well, there are about three I see on a regular basis, but I haven't seen one for sale that makes sense for me yet. I don't think it would be a gamble to say you like the GS F more than your IS F.

The IS F is way more fun to drive. The GS F has a massive trunk, later tech, and more power with enough extra weight to pretty much negate the power bump. Other than those things, I'll take the IS F over the GS F every day.

Wow, I have to say that I am a bit surprised by that, but that is very good to know. I know you said you hadn't considered an IS500, but have you driven one? It would be nice to get your input on the differences.

I kind of agree on liking the IS F more than the GS F in some ways. It feels more analog to me and somewhat reminded me on how my Supra drives. Now I drove every year of the IS F and I definitely liked the 2011+ the best with the Torsen dif and suspension upgrades it got but I wanted a 2013-2014 because my wife had a 2013 IS 350 with nav and I didn't want the older Gen 6 nav of the 2011-2012. GS F has newer interior tech but not quite up to the IS 500's and is more roomy for sure but given where they started I could get an IS 500 for the same price brand new with no miles on it so I did. The IS 500 has the Torsen dif like the 2010+ IS F and feels very similar, less digital than the TVD on the GS F. Plus it has a spare tire like an IS F and can fold down the rear seats which neither can do. For me the IS 500 was the best version of the performance V8 sedan from Lexus and most likely the last.

I am glad here in Australia the IS500 was never released here. We only received about 550 ISF's here as well during the 08-14 production period. They are holding value quite well, not that I intend to sell mine anytime soon.

The stronger engine with advanced oil/transmission cooling, the better dash, definitely the HUD(!), the LED headlights, and the greatly advanced skid control system. Minor features - I can pair my card key with the seat position in the GS F and can't do this with the IS F. I would not bring the throttle pedal. I hate the hinge at the bottom after driving the opposite for 35 years, and I would not bring the seats. I like the IS F seats much more than the GS F seats. Sure they look cool, but they don't feel good after 10 hours. I would also completely forget the entire rear suspension including the TVD. Selling that all by itself might recoup the cost of the wreck.

I haven't driven one, but I know how the IS F suffers at the track, and with the shortage of cooling makes me pretty sure I would not be happy with it stock on my first track weekend.

I'm more tempted to get a GR86 to replace the ISF for a fun track/autocross toy

Oddly enough I had a 2017 BRZ with performance package for about four years. It was fantastic to autox, but at the end of the day, I kept the much older IS F and sold the BRZ. The new one seems sweet except for the rtv concerns. I know I would have loved the extra torque from the new motor.

Whenever I meet up with my Lexus buddies, most of them phased out of the ISF and have moved onto an RCF/GSF. When my car is parked next to theirs, it just shows its age... the body lines, the headlights, the interior, etc. I don't mind it and of course, getting anything newer is nice, but I don't want another car payment and I haven't stopped loving my ISF since the day I bought it.

Recently drove a 2022 m340 and I don't know if I could get an IS500 over it, unless the is500 was significantly cheaper. Interior, tech, power and potential are leagues better.

While I haven't driven an IS500 yet, I have driven a GSF multiple times so I'd imagine the IS500 would equate to a 3/4 GSF.
