The IS-F won't be available until the 08 model year according to the article, I think the IS-F will still be available in 5 years, may be it will get upgraded to a 5.0 litre V8 from 4.6 V8 by then, so that's even better

Talk about being a glass half full optimist. Maybe if I tell myself that enough times I'll believe it.

btw the new M3 isnt going to be cheap, probably at least 60-65k, if the ISF is going to be north of the 50k mark then its in a good price range

IS-F doesn't sound right. Sounds more like a motorcycle. Whatever happened to L-Tuned? How about "IS-LTuned"?

Regardless, IS460 will be in the supercar category. Less than 10 pounds per horsepower.

1. L-tuned is discontinued and not coming back.
2. It maybe called the IS-R
3. It would be an IS 500, not 460. Its going to use the new 5.0 V-8 from the LS 600h, not the LS 460.

How are you so sure? Do you have an insider? According to the article, it states V8 from LS460.

i am definitely looking forward to the is500, i think it's going to be the first and very best shot lexus has at bmw. would want to see hwo the car compares to the m3 and also the c55 and s4. lexus needs to execute this carefully, otherwise it's going to be one bitter first shot

Just curious how much higher you think the insurance rates would be for a car with this kind of power?

Actually, I'm inclined to say, that those honors went to the first gen. IS. We're on their heels, and a few paces ahead in some areas with the 2IS, so I'll remain optimistic with the M3 competitor (though I'm still giving the nod to the M car for now).

It's not so much the power of the car.

If it has four doors, the driver is older and female, and no history of accidents or tickets, then insurance won't go up that much...

I went from a BMW 330cic with only 225 hp, to a IS350 with 306 hp and my insurance rate
didn't budge..

It seems like the owner demographics for a car have a pretty big impact on insurance costs. Going from the IS300 to the IS350, my insurance actually went down about 6%. And the IS300 was about 10% more to insure than my S4 as well. I think the insurance companies know the IS300 has a bit more appeal (and is affordable) for the boy racer crowd.
