Supposedly from a source in Japan, Lexus is planning a M series competitor for the GS(5.0L as well) and the LS in the future.

If Lexus was serious about this car, they would have stopped short of insulting the idea. They were far more kind with the possibility of the IS430, yet they still didn't produce it.

FWIW, this comparison is ridiculous. Might as well ask what badge people would prefer--it's just as credible given the lack of information we have on the future of these cars.

wrong there bud. The 335i (coupe/manual) is .1 seconds slower than the IS350. And in reality .1 seconds isnt anything. It all comes down to the driver. So it doesnt "blow" the 350 away. And if i recall correctly, the 335 is now heavier than the 350.

as for the m3 vs is500. The official news now is that the IS-F will be debuted in January. Try with 425hp.

Christian8, where are you getting those numbers from? The 335i is defiantly not slower than the IS350, even die hard IS fanboys will admit to that, including myself.

The IS will be a nice car. The M3 is an impressive car due to its long heritage. Lexus can compete, it will just take time.

Folks always come back to Porsche 911, M3/5/6, Corvette Z06 when comparing other cars but they have been proven time and time again.

I hope Lexus pulls out the stops and does more than simply dropping a V8 in an IS. Personally I think the IS is too small for a V8. It will be a hard sell compared to an M3 sedan which will be more roomier.

*Throws dirt on top of thread* There I am the last one to say goodbye to this thread, and lay it to rest. This thing is old school.

Depends on who in the house is buying. My husband prefers his M3 for many reasons (handling, responsiveness, no intrusive VDIM etc if you don't want it-he's in control-the "drivers" car!) but appreciates my IS350 for it's many features and amenities. He also knows the IS makes me very happy..."if Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy"!!! So, he would probably vote M3 while I would vote IS500 but only after serious research and test driving once they're out. My husband also currently owns a '97 Toyota Supra and is anxiously waiting for the new one to come out! All that being said, can't really vote at this time!

what does everybody think about the up and coming C63 AMG?

Heres what edmunds is thinking:

"...The C63's new V8 produces 475 hp at 6,800 rpm, and 465 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm, which is a 30-percent and 24-percent increase over the 2006 C55's 5.4-liter output.

That power will be sent to the C63's rear wheels with the company's now ubiquitous 7-speed automatic transmission. This prototype wears a set of mismatched 18-inch wheels, which are no doubt bolted to the same fade-resistant composite-construction front brake discs we sampled on the 2007 CLK63."

Sounds pretty impresive to me, and mercedes has been coming out with some good loooking cars. In my oppinion, the new CL is a very good looking car and if the new C-class looks anything like a four door version of that, I might have a hard time deciding the future of my car buying...

500 all day and against the M3 coupe. But, I believe the M3 hardtop convertible is going to be one the most beautiful, powerful, and sought after cars on the road

+1 The M3 has so much going for it.

Custom ordering, coupe, hardtop convertible, sedan, SMG or manual tranny, etc. Part of the excitment will be building a car to your own specs.

I am going to disagree. I drove the 330i and is350 back to back at the Lexus event and it's pretty clear in terms of driving pleasure the 330i wins hands down.

Before is350 came out Lexus made similar claim it's going to be a better performing car than BMW 3 series. Cheaper, more reliable and drive as well as a BMW, boy was I excited. I was sold until I drove it. Two years after its release still no manual, not even SMG/DSG. This time around I am going with BMW. Just placed deposit on the new M. Sell the M after the 3 free years of maintenance then get something more reliable.

Just as the IS 350 is better car than the 330 and alot better value than the 335.
And about looks, we dont know yet since noo valid pics of the is 500 have surfaced. But i'll be the first to admit that you I bet you couldn't go wrong with either car.
