But I think they meant in regards to Lexus.
Lexus finally made a small sporty sedan with plenty of power to rival (or try) the G or 3 series BMW. So, to the Lexus fans.. its a pretty big achievement, what other Lexus car hauls as much as the IS350? Maybe a GS/LS but it doesn't feel the same!

I doubt it, it does not make economic sense for the reasons already mentioned. The IS350 is not as groundbreaking an achievment as some of you make it out to be. Yes, it's 306HP small sedan starting at $35k, (although I have yet to see one at anything less than 38k) but so what? I don't see what is so astonishing about those numbers. Infiniti had the G35 with only slightly less power, but also a lower price tag so the price/performance ratio would be about similar to the IS350.
I'd love for it to be accurate, I just don't think it is.

Yes infiniti has been doing this for 4 years, but lexus had to one up them. How? Styling, a more potent, yet more efficient motor.

Oh I agree.
And like I said before I really think that to Lexus yes.. the car is pretty ground breaking!
And before the birth of the new G and new 3 series.. it was pretty ground breaking then. Any time you set a standard that is groundbreaking.
The NEW G boasts 30Xhp and so does the NEW 3 series. Guess this time Lexus was a leader in that aspect. :P

I disagree..the styling is groundbreaking, and so is the motor. Unless you are trying to convey that the IS is indeed groundbreaking, Then I would have to disagree with ramon.

The M3 still trumps the IS350's motor, and that came out something like 6 years ago. And it's only off on the claimed highway MPG by 3 points. I don't consider the M3's engine to be groundbreaking, so the IS's motor...? nah.
The IS's styling is, arguably, one of its best attributes. It's a gorgeous design. But groundbreaking? Nah. Groundbreaking is something unusual and special that paves the way for much of the automotive design that follows it.
Very, very few cars are truly groundbreaking in terms of visual appearance, mostly because the changes from year to year are very much evolutionary, rather than revolutionary.

500HP in the IS?
1) It's most probably a hoax.
2) It's probably not a good idea.
As much as I'd kill to get a 500HP IS, I seriously doubt that the chassis could handle that kind of power.

I would assume the people designing the car would know. Highly unlikely they would take the same car and drop a huge motor into it. If they did.. then, well.. I'd be sad.

Still, I'm not holding my breath for a 500-hp IS, nor do I think it really needs that kinda power from the factory.
