Default IS-F at the US OPEN

The IS-F was mentioned during the US Open. He stated that it has 400 HP.(not over 400 HP). Do you guys think it's true? Guess we'll have to wait just a little longer to know for certain......

the C63 is detuned to 450hp if Lexus isn't cheap on the hardware don't be suprised to see the IS-f making close to 450hp or even more.

The LS460 is already good for 82.6hp/L
83hp/L = 415hp
85hp/L = 425hp
87hp/L = 435hp
89hp/L = 445hp

90hp/L = 450hp

LS600h's 5.0L makes 389hp

I'm just guessing somewhere b/w 435hp and 450hp. But 460hp wouldn't shock me.

Default interesting info at lexus.de

I was at the german site of lexus (www.lexus.de) looking for any new info about the IS-F. I found an interesting comment there that says that the car will have over 420PS and will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 4,9 sec. That will be even lower in the US acceleration test. They also mention that the F letter is for Fuji Speedway where they do much of the testing of the cars.
I hope this time Lexus won't disappoint us like they did with the GS460.

I've heard some rumors from the Lexus guys that will be presenting the IS-F in Frankfurt this week. It says that the IS-F will have 90hp/L = 450hp as Mr. Jones said to compete with the C63 AMG. My local dealer was also talking about 500 HP for the european market!? I was like WTF? Don't know if it's true... we will see the final specs in Frankfurt on Thursday

Sounds very funny when sheer HP numbers are considered as the yardstick for "competing against rivals".

By that account, the race car Porsche 911 GT3 997 lost to it's rivals long time ago considering it only puts out 415 HP from a tiny 3.6 liter boxer-6.

On the race track, GT3 can own 6 liter N/A or supercharged AMGs in acceleration and handling any day.

Welcome to ClubLexus! So the F is for Fuji Speedway. That does make a lot of sense to me. Thanks for the tip!

For what it's worth, the M3 has a power to weight ratio of 8.4lbs/hp and the C63 is at 8.3lbs/hp.

**WARNING, THE FOLLOWING IS 100% HYPOTHETICAL **

Many here are predicting that the curb weight of the car will be around 3,800lbs. The IS 350 weighs 3,527lbs so I am going to guess that the extras might add 200lbs of weight, so for argument's sake I'm going to guess that the car will weigh in at 3,750lbs. At that weight, even if they give the car 440hp, we are still looking at a power to weight ratio of about 8.5lbs/hp. It would be great if they planned to give us 455hp or so, because at that rate the ratio would be 8.2. If they give the car the "rumored" 415hp...the power to weight ratio drops to 9.0.

I'm just playing with numbers and the M3 is also a coupe and there will be a sedan to follow, which in all fairness will be a better competitor to the ISF and C63. Also to consider is torque, as my numbers are based on horsepower, the 8spd transmission, etc. It could all go any number of ways but it just boils down to the fact that more weight is going to require more power, and when the estimates are "400+", something like 450hp seems like a longshot.

We'll see.

Your weight number is a tad high. My IS350 with lux/nav/ML weighs exactly 3620 with slightly less than half a tank of fuel. Since the IS-F will have a similar package and a little more engine weight, I speculate it will weigh about 3716 - 3720, with the moonroof delete option taking out about 60 lbs total for a wet weight around 3660. Even at this weight though, we'd need 441 hp to equal the competition, and 450 to be slightly better.

^^not exactly. The moonroof option with all the ancillary bits and pieces weighs about 60 lbs more than just sheet metal.

I hope you are right! Consider things though like the new hood, exhaust, brakes, wheels, and also the added weight from whatever engine components they have...I just hope they keep it as low as possible.

My guess is 426 hp. Used the same engine specs as the IS350 just upped the Liters to 5.0 . I`ll even say that the 1/4 mile specs will be 12.8 off the show room floor.

That is exactly what I did, but your number is different than mine. The equation is:

5.0 / 3.5 = 5.0L is 42.86% bigger than the 3.5 liter motor.

If you assume the same specs per liter, then the hp rating would be

1.4286 * 306 (IS350 rating) = 437 hp

437 hp is my guestimate from a previous post (using your reasoning). I'm not sure how you came up with 426 hp. Maybe if you don't round the liters the way I did, and use more exact numbers you get that number.
