6800rpm redline for production IS-F?!!
Hi guys, my first post.
I just zoomed in on the latest IS-F pic and seemed to me the redline is at 6800rpm now. However, the IS-F PR pics from Jan clearly showed 7000rpm redline. Is it true? Does anyone know anything about the change? thx.

The first Ultrasonic IS-F blue was the first complete hand built car in the world at the time. That was not a car that was driven, only a show car. Yes it does have a 6800 RPM redline now. Since the vehicle has been tuned since that prototype, I can tell you there is no reduction in power. Having a higher redline doesn't mean higher hp.

This vehicle makes plenty HP. It's plenty enough that it doesn't need to be pushed past 8k to extract any power.

I would love to see what a company like TOM's or Top Secret could do with this motor......
Lexus is ssoooooooo conservative with it's tuning, that motor probably has about 600hp NA locked away in it.

+1. If the dated 3UZ can push 500HP in race trim, and even the 2GR-FSE can push close to 500HP in race trim, than this thing can easily push 600HP in race trim.

yes it does.
You make power by:
1) Displacement
2) Compression and/or Boost
3) Revolutions
(see 3.0L engines in F1 cars making 1000hp because they ran at 20,000 rpm)
....Just so you know, I got what you were trying to say, I'm just being a smartarse.

Having looked at a number of dynos on fully stock V8s, I can tell you that your theory is false in reality. The SC400, in stock form, has a power curve that tails off from about 5750-6250. I am not refering to the torque curve here (ft*lb), but the power curve (hp).
If the cams and the subsequent timing of the engine can not keep up with the revolutions, the power curve will peak and begin to fall off as engine revolutions increase.
To get a V8 to not only make power at 7000rpm but also to maintain good street manners at idle is a tough task. That is why these engines bring such a high price tag. That is also why these engines are so often so well responsive to basic performance adders.
The engine will only make power off its displacement, compression, revolutions, and boost if it is able to allow itself to. Most V8's struggle to make power over 5500.
