For the IS model...F = Five Hundred (IS 500)

It also means 500 for the US market. Thats how many will be sold in the USA!

^The drop on that car is HOT. Anyway, my theory is F is for F1, as in a nod to Panasonic/Toyota Racing lineage...



See any similarities?

I can't associate F with flagship
I think of LS when it comes to flagship.

I believe the flagship is associated within it's category. For example within the current IS models such as the IS 220d, IS 250 and IS 350, the IS-F is the flagship within the model line. Hopefully Lexus builds the GS-F and that would be the flagship within that model line, GS 350, GS 450h and GS 460 and so...

Flagship vehicles are most commonly associated with entire marques, not individual models.
