Vadim over at mbworld.org is already working on a supercharger for this monster.

Now ask yourself this -- how long until IS-F's are going to get turbo-ed or supercharged ---> or even better yet! --> how long until Toyota releases and IS-Fh featuring hybrid motors that are there for HP rather than fuel economy?

I already count the M3 out for forced induction because those numbers show it really pushing things, I think it'll be like the E46 M3 (which isn't a bad thing at all, lots of folks prefer that and it has it's own areas where it excels).

I think a hybrid system for a sports car is a bad idea. The added weight of the electric motors and batteries would really hurt the handling of the IS, and IMO, that is where the battle is going to be won or lost.

E46 M3 huh???

You might be a bit oblivious since there are various supercharger kits (AA, Dinan etc.) offered for the E46 M3 putting it over 550 WHP (stage 3, search for JMWeb's E46 M3), turbocharger by horsepower freaks and the highest HP an E46 M3 is making, is 1000 WHP with a turbo.

Yes the electronic servotronic technology gimmick did not work so well. They will most likely end up fixing it in the 2nd year. Nonetheless, it still allows the car to handle exceptionally well. It can still blast through the slaloms at 71 mph and run faster lap times than the RS4.

The C63 is ALREADY kicking but. The IS-F does look nice. I didn't even know about it until I saw that the winner of the US Open will be taking one home with them. At the time I thought "OK, so why would they give the winner this small little car" and then I realized it had 400HP and had to come in here. Sure does look nice and should be pretty quick but doubt it will have a prayer against a similarily sized car with over 100 HP more. If Lexus plays it smart and keeps the price "within range" of the crowd that has grown up with the IS's, they should have a following that can migrate to this newer, faster creature. If they price it above $55K they will loose the majority of the ir market to the other options IMHO (of course).

How fast is the C63? i'm thinking the F needs to be around 4.6 secs to have any chance.

The C63 will most definitely have more torque than the IS-F, but I doubt it will have "a lot" more power. The C63 will have about 450 hp, and all we know is that the IS-F will have "over 400 hp". I personally think that people may be surprised by the power rating of the IS-F when it is eventually revealed. Even if the IS-F has "only 420 hp", and Lexus keeps its weight under control, it could make for a nice matchup with the C63. Plus the 8 speed transmission in IS-F may also be surprisingly good. Lets just wait and see what happens...

I'd be willing to bet that the IS-F will do better than 4.6. A lot of people seem to forget that during the unveiling of the IS-F it was noted that Lexus will incorporate several technologies specifically designed to help "launch" the car off the line.

Press release (or conference) said nothing about a BMW-style "automated manual SMG launch control" feature.

It only mentioned about the lock-up torque converter stall rpm being much higher than other automatics (usually limited at 2500 - 3000 rpm so they cannot be brake torque'd any higher), which puts them in a disadvantage compared to manual cars that can easily be launched from any RPM. So with a high stall-rpm for lock up torque converter, the car can be brake torqued from a higher rpm off the line.

M3 > All

Sorry, but the M3 has always molested the competitors, regardless if it was E30, E36, E46... and for sure, the E90.

I agree it might happen, but this thread is not really comparing with M3. I have been keeping up with European magazines for tests and going by sheer performance, the new M3 is putting down some astonishing performance figures compared to other similar cars (including Audi R8, RS4, Corvette C6 base, Porsche 911 Carrera S RWD etc.).

Price wise, it will still be under 55 - 58k starting with fully optioned out in the 65 - 67k. For a bit more than this price, only base 911 can be had. A Carrera S is more comparable, which costs A LOT more.
