And the "official" horsepower rating is... (merged threads)

Neiman Marcus lists the IS-F at $68K (I would imagine loaded)
First 50 production IS-F will be available on Oct 18.

Then there is an even bigger gap between it and the competition! I agree, that AMG motor is a BEAST! My only wish was that the new C63's interior wasn't so hideous.

At 416 hp, if that's the case, the ISF may not be top dog in HP but the performance figures are where it will win. Thanks to the new 8 speed tranny, the car will perform extremely well. I believe it will take the M3 and the RS4 and give the AMG a good scare on the strip. While doing this it will do what no manufacturer in this segment has been able to do; AVOID THE GAS GUZZLER TAX! To me, that is truly impressive.

i trule hope the 435 in the plate stands for something...and i also think that this is going to be spot on in handling compared to the m3, if not better.
the car most likely will outperform the m3 (hopefully)
i think we're all forgetting a big advantage the is-f has compared to the RS4 and the M3, and thats in the TQ !!!

Lexus IS F confirmed with 417hp under the bonnet

Despite Lexus showing off its new sports sedan back in January at the Detroit Auto Show the company has been surprisingly tight-lipped about the number of horses kicking under the hood. However, today’s Japanese launch of the IS F allowed to officially state the figures as well as other details it hasn’t revealed before. The 5.0L V8 will develop 417hp (311kW) at 5,500rpm and 504Nm (372lb-ft) of torque, putting the IS F squarely in the same region as the BMW M3 and Audi RS4, its main competitors.
The engine will be mated to an 8-speed paddle-shift gearbox based on the one found in the LS460. Lexus has modified the transmission to offer a “M” mode for fast acceleration in first gear, while potentially limiting any damage caused by careless driving. The gearbox will also blip the throttle during downshifts to avoid jolts. The IS F has also had numerous suspension modifications, including new springs, shock absorbers, stabilizers tuned for the performance car. Sitting on 19in tires, the IS F uses large-diameter, wide 225/40R19 tires at the front and 255/35R19 tires at the rear for gripping the road and also gets a performance brake package.
Top speed is estimated by Lexus to be over 185mph, though the IS F will be limited to just 180km/h in its home market. Tellingly, the company forecasts just 500 sales a year in Japan but expects to sell over 5,000 in the U.S.

According to a news article on Reuters the IS-f will have 423bhp....
SHUNTOU-GUN, Japan (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T: Quote, NEWS , Research) unveiled the production model of its Lexus IS F sports car on Thursday as it aims to close the gap with global luxury car heavyweights Mercedes-Benz (DAIGn.DE: Quote, Profile , Research) and BMW AG (BMWG.DE: Quote, Profile , Research).
The IS F is the first in a new series of muscle cars planned under the Lexus line christened "F", created to broaden the brand.
"Lexus has long been renowned as a luxury, high-quality brand," said Executive Vice President Akio Toyoda, responsible for Toyota's domestic operations.
"But to be recognized as a true global premium brand, we knew we needed more emotional vehicles," Toyoda, grandson of company founder Kiichiro Toyoda, said at the car's unveiling at Fuji Speedway, the automaker's racing circuit near Mount Fuji.
Eager to show off the car's new five-liter, 423-horsepower V8 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission -- the world's first to allow manual-style gear changes -- Toyota invited reporters to test-ride the IS F.
Professional drivers whirled their passengers around the Fuji Speedway circuit, venue of the Formula 1 Japan Grand Prix last weekend, at speeds up to 240 kph (150 mph).
Lexus is the top-selling luxury brand in the United States, but it occupies a niche in Europe, where competition is fiercest. The 18-year-old brand debuted in Japan in August 2005, and Toyoda said it would take "at least a decade" for it to gain the kind of status that Mercedes and BMW enjoy in Japan.
Toyota's sales in Japan have been on a downtrend along with the rest of the market, where many consumers have shifted to 660cc mini-vehicles. Excluding that segment, dominated by Suzuki Motor Corp (7269.T: Quote, NEWS , Research) and Daihatsu Motor Co (7262.T: Quote, NEWS , Research), Japan's car market shrank 9.5 percent in September, the 27th successive month of decline from a year earlier.
Toyota's sales fell 4.2 percent, although the smaller drop meant its domestic market share grew to 45.8 percent for the year to date.
Toyoda said that rather than racking up sales volume, the IS F, a prototype of which debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January, was aimed at luring Japanese consumers back to the car market.
Toyota said it aimed to sell 7,000 of the cars globally in 2008, mostly in the United States. The IS F will first hit showrooms in Japan on December 25, with a price tag of 7.66 million yen ($65,700), followed by a launch overseas from the first quarter of 2008.
The "F" designation was first conceived about 20 years ago with a project internally coded "Circle-F" -- the "F" standing for "flagship".
That gave birth to the Lexus brand in 1989, but the project then evolved into the high-octane line beyond Lexus's "normal engineering and development process," Toyota said.

When Car and Driver and the rest do their head to head reviews and the IS F gets beat by the beamer in 0-60, 1/4 miles, and slalom numbers it would look worst for them to publish a higher number in hp then it would be at a lower. The Mags would jump on them even more saying while the Lexus is producing more hp it's not as fast as the RS 4, BMW etc. Did Lexus lie? Now if the IS F was to win and it's only rated at 417, then they will be like the Lexus is under rated making them look good in the process and everybody would be even happier! What’s the difference of 5hp? Anyone that has any knowledge of performance cars should know that it takes at least 20 hp to overcome a difference in the Gearing, weight, powerband, torque, tires" to make a difference in 0-60mph time and even more to be 1 mph faster in the ¼ mile. That's why cars that are only 20hp difference are a driver’s race. The higher rated car can lose at anytime depending on reaction times, weight, power band, torque, tires….all have a lot to do with acceleration.
Furthermore, Add to that the aerodynamics. Acceleration is defined as Force / Mass The traction force (that propel the car) is diminished by the drag force (resistance force). In your Force balance, the drag coeff Cd, frontal section area, center of gravity location and its height, mass distribution, ...all of them play a non negligible role in gaining those precious fractions of a second.
You have also to compare the torque (vs, rpm) curve for both engines if everything else is the same. Max HP alone is meaningless

That article clearly states 423 . . . but then again does 423 p/s mean 417 hp ? ?
We can still hope the Japanese F differs from the U.S. F . . .
The primary reason why im saying this is look at the new sti, in Japan it will only be a 2.0l motor and N/A b/c of their strict emission laws and what not . . . The U.S. will be a 2.5l turbo - both kicking out close to the same hp, maybe the isf even though according to the article is 75% lower in emissions than they require, is still detuned greatly for their needs. Lets wait and find out.
Once again, how are we comparing ISF, M3, C63 together . . .
They arent in the same class, especially the m3 which has 2 doors, ISF should be M5 territory, big 4 door car with alot of *****
