Default IS F vs IS 350 4WD TWIN TURBO

I think that the IS F was not a Good Idea for Lexus, Now they have a heavier IS vehicle, If I was them I would have kept the V6 on the IS 350...installed a twin turbo and made the car into a four wheel drive vehicle using the same specs of the 4WD IS 250 with the 8 speed transmision and some nice cosmetic work and that for me would had been a better vehicle than the IS F and I probably would have named it the IS 350X,

Bi-turbo 6es were very popular over fifteen years ago. Refined, powerful V8s seems to be a new trend today.

I am divided on that issue a bit, GT-R TT-V6 AWD setup has serious nostalgia factor and that's why I like it but still waiting for a day for Mitsu to implement quad-turbo technology and knowledge into any reasonable priced production car other than Veyron.

I always support new and developing technologies and their implementation into real world, and for sure one of them is IS-F 5.0l V8

Are you implying that a twin turbo V6 with all-wheel drive would
be lighter than the V8 with rear-wheel drive? Doubtful!

Lexus wasn't trying to be Audi with this car. Audi did the V6 TT
AWD thing a few years ago with the S4... notice that the S4 is
V8-powered these days?

The IS-F is perfect, except for the weak wheel widths and offsets...

Twin Turbo on a high compression 3.5 V-6 with dual VVTi? Can u say blown engine.
AWD is NOT pure. RWD is. I love the S4 but it won't be as pure as the IS-F or M3 b/c even with a RWD bias, the front wheels are also being used.

Take no further example than Porsche, who puts AWD on the Turbo but RWD on all GT3 and GT2 cars.

The 8 speed they put in it seems to be a marvel, but a manual would have been nice too.

Overall, I say just slap AWD on the IS 350 like the GS 350 AWD.

The cost of producing a Toyota-reliable twin-turbo V-6 for the IS-F would have been prohibitive. Slapping the V8 in and bulging the hood was much cheaper. The weight issue could only be solve through costly high-tech materials. You would be talking about an "flagship priced" entry level luxury sedan.

I just want to see the Turbo V6 Supra comeback in an IS body with the 8 speed transmission and I belive the IS will have serious acceleration and handling with 4WD, a twin turbo on the 3.5 V6 IS350 will give it over 500 HP and if Porsche can do it... why not Lexus!.

Huh...The Supra never had a V6

6 gears are more than enough for a very powerful engine (I'm talking 500+hp) and you won't be using the 7th and 8th gears on it since you won't be cruising in that type of vehicle.

I think a twin turbo charged 3.5L V6 will have more torque and HP than 5.0L V8. Emissions are a different story and for that very reason you will be seeing even fewer turbocharged powerplants comming from factories.

None of the Lexus models were ever equipped with turbochargers under then hood and that is why they went V8 in the IS-F. The same goes for Infinity and is the reason why the GTR will be under the Nissan lineup.

There is no replacement for displacement right? I am split on this topic actually. Can someone give me an estimate of how much weight the engine adds to the this car? Aluminum blocks and such it is lighter I thought. A V8 just sounds cooler.

Good rule of thumb....

High Compression = NA
Low Compression = Forced Induction

Guess what kind of engine the IS has?

I'm not trying to refute that Lexus did a great job of picking the engine, but you could always buy a turbo timer instead of having to wait while it warms up and cools down....

Better rule of thumb - FI = poor fuel economy (worse BSFC) NA = better fuel economy (better BSFC) in any gasoline SI engine.
