...and the first year production has already been fully booked and Lexus Japan has already stopped taking advance orders, citing a 1-year-maximum waiting list policy.

I don't think you heard the news either. The official base price of the GT-R in Japan is 7,770,000 yen, while the base price of the IS-F is 7,660,000 yen. I call that close. Extremely close.

well, the Japanese have been able to drive the GTR (previous models) all along, so its not as special to them since they have had the GTR all this time. the IS-F is completely new thing.

I am one of those lurkers here at the forum and I am strongly considering buying a ISF as my first Lexus. I plan on buying in June of 09.
My questions to all of you are:
1) Is the ISF going to be produced in the US or in Japan and shipped to US?
2) If the US has a similar demand for the ISF will we also be looking at a waiting time of 1year as well? Or does the US production have a greater capacity?
This way I can plan my savings and ordering times

2) You can put a deposit on an IS-F now, and you can get that deposit back if you decide not to purchase one. Because of the low production numbers set for the U.S, I highly recommend reserving one now, and deciding to keep the reservation later...

Exactly, it is going to have to draw buyers from the German car ranks because the IS-F is very non-Lexus-like in many regards, look-at-me styling cues and harsher ride being two of them.. I'll be surprised if the 300-400 car a month "target" is met over the long term.
