Lexus IS-F/R in the works?

Lexus Connoisseur
This is old news. Looks like the French are just now jumping on the bandwagon. Rumors of a lightweight version of the IS-F have been around for quite some time now.

I would have to totally agreee . . . this wait is killing me though, ive had my deposit in for like forever, just makes me wanna pull it out and go get a fully loaded c6 for less

Agreed. Actually, the reason I was initially attracted to the IS-F is that I prefer a luxury/performance balance a little more on the luxury side than the BMW M. So far, the reviews seem fairly positive in that regard.

If they do it I'd get one.
I'm in the air about the IS-F right now because it lacks breakneck power and honestly, I don't care for all the 'omg' extras. That's what the LS is for.
Lexus needs a slightly hardcore track-version of their boy racers for us spoiled younger guys.

It seems the IS-F is allready quicker then the M3:
Testing for the IS-F is in full swing for American motoring magazines, some with remarkable results.
On the '700-slalom' the IS-F went up to 71.6 mph, while the new M3 did 65.9 mph.
To give you an impression on some other cars:
Porsche 997 S - 71.7 mph
Porsche 997 Carrera 4S - 71.8 mph
Porsche Cayman S - 73.6 mph
Porsche Boxster S - 73.9 mph

Weight reduction will be achieved by use of carbon fiber and aluminum components and body panels to replace steel. The name IS-F/R is only a placeholder name, internally the car is known as the 518L. Aimed for a Fall release in Japan.

Here's the thing... the person that is going to buy the IS-F, is buying it for the existing performance and the luxury that goes with it. The person that is not buying the IS-F, probably just hates Japanese cars (rice burners), so no amount of weight loss or power gain is going to convince them that the IS-F is better than an M3. When you're hardcore to a particular marque, you die with it, no matter what...
Would I guy a "watered" down IS-F, no. I think 0-60 in 4.5ish time is good enough for me in my daily driving. Anything less is "overkill" and I won't want to pay for it because although less in overall weight, it will no doubt cost more.
