Don't be hating the M3, Toyota (and really, any other manufacturer except perhaps Hyundai) does the same thing with setting a "low" base price and then loading up with options. Look at the IS350, base $36K, loaded $45K, almost $10k more. You have to compare apples to apples and once all is said and done, the M3 will cost more than a comp. equipped IS-F, except M3 will not have an automatic transmission option...
My money, IS-F, because my wife can't drive a stick and I can't afford to have a car in the shop too often...

BMW releases official info on M-DCT w/ Drivelogic (BMW's new dual clutch transmission)
Full info/PDF:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/s...07582
DCT acceleration specs:
M3 coupe manual: 4.8s 0-100kmh (1580kg by DIN)
M3 coupe M DCT: 4.6s 0-100kmh (1600kg by DIN)
M3 sedan manual: 4.9s 0-100kmh (1605kg by DIN)
M3 sedan M DCT: 4.7s 0-100kmh (1625kg by DIN)
M3 cabrio manual: 5.3s 0-100kmh (1810kg by DIN)
M3 cabrio M DCT: 5.1s 0-100kmh (1830kg by DIN)
So by BMW standards, it and the IS are neck and neck if not the IS faster. But they can thank R&T for saving their behinds..

M3 is cheaper than the IS-F??
Wow, didn't expect the 4-door M3 to undercut the IS-F!

When the IS-F was supposed to be ~$10k less I was interested, now notsomuch.

BMW figures are always conservative. Real world numbers however are quite different.

I think it's very possible to get 4.0s to 60mph with an M3 equiped DCT. This would be amazing because it's not really designed for straight line speed.

Wow, I'm going to take the M3 then. I don't want to sit on dead cow skin, metallic paint for what? Real draggers pay to get the matte finish. No auto/DCT... excellent. I'll take a base M3 please...

not including DCT i think they're very similarly priced. $1k either way is not very significant imo.
having said that i dont think you can throw the lack/cost of DCT at it as a negative. that sounds like hate to me - many would get a stick IS if they could. many would also get a DCT for the IS if they could.

I am still figuring out if I like the M3 or not.
Don't like the single piston calipers...
Don't like the weight of the car, even though my 335i is in need of a diet.
And when I factor in the options I want, it will probably tip the scales at $70K.
For that type of money I would be looking at other cars. Hell if the Skyline wasn't going to be marked up beyond belief I would definitely buy that car in a heartbeat. Oh well I will just see how well I do with my name being 3rd on the waiting list at my local dealer.

A lot of people on the m3 forum cancelled their spot in line to wait until march/april for the DCT M3 builds, there is a good demand for it. If BMWs shifters had the smoothness and shortness of the S2000 shifter (the best feeling manual on the planet) that would be great, but they are still notchy. Just more reasons to get a DCT, plus the mileage is slightly better

Now, you can get 60k M3 without smart entry, sure.
And besides, nothing unfair about calling it out for DCT pricing - in all reviews, 8 speed from Lexus was called awesome. Wanna bet which one will last longer?

The M3 will be in the dealer all the time getting sensors replaced. I have known three people with them (2002, 2003 and an 05). All are at the dealer quite a bit. Yes, those straight sixes produce some torque, but I would rather stick with quality that will not bring on irritation. This is basically why I was happy to jump from Infiniti to Lexus. Also, Lexus has more refined styling with not only the L-Finses concept, but with past models as well (LOL).
