Trap speed tells it all there. Very consistant 111. mph. Now all that is needed is a chip , intake , headers, and maybe mid pipe or exhaust.

Wouldnt it be nice for that valve for the intake to open up say at 3000 rpm !!!!

Chip? Never for any Toyota.

Intake? Likely will result in 0 hp gain, pretty much the same as the ISx50.

Exhaust? Couple of ponies and a lot more noise.

Headers? That's where you might make some ground, but will have to sacrifice emissions compliance as the Mazzuri headers do for the ISx50.

Open the valve early? Might make it fall on its face as easily as anything else.

If you've worked on tuning anything Toyota recently, you've discovered there is very little room for improvement. Probably the biggest difference would be made by fixing the ridiculously rich AFR on the top end. Everything else is going to be limited by the lack of tunability on the OEM ECM.

My last car I seriously tuned was my supra and it was easy. Just to bolt on a manifold and turbo kit yielded crazy gains on a stock engine with some tunning.

And I understand the difficulties tuning cars nowadays. My E55 was just stupid money for a reflash. I imagine the tuning ability on this car will be tight but you never know until you try. Just like with any performance car you have to bolt on some parts, try to tweak the AFR and timing to see if there really are some gains. A higher rev limit would be great too considering they when through all the trouble to have a lightweight Valve train. Looking at the dynos I have seen looks like a turbo cars AFR in the power band!!!

I think the best bang for the buck will be a bit of

Time will tell.

Also the valve opening up sooner will work as long as fuel and timing are adjusted accordingly. It has plenty of displacement and low in tq. It reminds of the Honda VTEC engines in a way acting like a turbo coming into boost. They have done this mod with no problems

Good luck changing the timing. AFAIK, no one has cracked a modern Toyota ECM. Lots of threads about trying, but nothing accomplished. Same problem will limit you to the OEM redline.

I did some research. The valve is for noise. You could bypass the VSV and hold the door open with no ill effect beside increasing noise. My bet is it won't make any difference in power, but without trying it and making a few timed passes, you'll never know for sure.

Yeah, Supras are easy to modify for more power. I've had a hardtop since 1994. The new generation of Toyota products isn't nearly as friendly to tuners.

No problem Pete. Even though I didn't drive the lexus beast like one should yet.. I'm glad it was convincing enough for you to trade up the 335i for the most powerful toyota ever produced to date.. the new Lexus ISF!

We might just have to turn the dinner into a 2IS (and Supra?) meet

Peter, out of curiosity, why would you trade in a 2008 chipped 335i for a 2008 IS-F?

Fast - just saw your post.

1. The IS-F is faster - look at the trap speeds.
2. The IS-F is a Toyota - QUALITY
3. The IS-F has better brakes.
4. The IS-F has better suspension (based on what I'm looking for)
5. The IS-F Levinson stereo is better
6. I like the Lexus interior better
7. I'm a Toyota guy at heart...

I can probably think of some other reasons if you'd like.

Don't know about the is-f being faster. Have you seen dragtimes lately for your car you just traded in?

335i has great suspension as well.

I am surprised that you traded yours in.

i agree about the rest of your comments though.

I DO know about the IS-F being faster. I was there and I witnessed traps all day long. I trapped CONSISTENTLY 108 mph in the 335i and the IS-F trapped CONSISTENTLY 111-112. The IS-F is DEFINATELY faster.

suspension for the IS-F is better than the sport suspension on the 335i coupe...that's what my friend said who owns a 335i coupe with the procede v2 chip...

Yes in Fact I confirmed this with the dealer that the IS350 will track better times in Auto mode and the ISF will track better times in the Manual mode.

Try it out if you havent
