Default XM Radio (IS 350 to IS F)

I recently traded-in my IS 350 on a IS F. The IS 350 had XM Radio installed so I asked the dealer in advance to take the XM Radio out of the IS 350 and install it in the IS F.

After having my car in the service department for over 3 hours they said it would not work in the IS F. I don't believe they even tried.

So I took the radio home and installed it myself. It took me less than 40 minutes, I would think someone (Lexus Technician for example) would be able to do it in less time.

As you can image I'm not happy with the dealer, but loving my new IS F and now that I have XM again, it's even better.

Why is a Certified Lexus Technician unable to install it, but a customer who's never done this before able do it in less than 40 minutes. I plan on calling the dealer and would welcome any suggestions on how to handle this.

Thanks in advance!

I bought the XM kit myself on line and installed it myself as well. It's pretty easy to do on the IS.

Obviously, the dealer did not want to use his service dept. to do your install for free. If that was factored into the deal then I would say they owe you like 1 hour free labor the next time you need some work done.

They probably wanted you to buy another kit from the parts department. I saved almost $300 by buying the kit from the lexus dealership and having it installed at best buy. They were going to charge $350 for labor. That is way to high of an install price.

Does the XM radio use the shark fin antenna for reception? Or is there a separate antenna for it? Thanks

It uses the existing shark fin. The cable is already there in the trunk wrapped up and waiting for you to plug it into the radio.

Damn, that's lame. Instead of calling them up, I'd go in in person and tell them your story. I hate dealerships that behave like that. It's disrespectful to you and your time.

I think its a $486.00 option. It isnt included in the M/L Nav package.
My Dealer threw it in the deal.

You can buy the radio and install kit for about $300 if you shop around. Then you can install it yourself in about 90 minutes or less. It's pretty easy to do.
