thanks for the replies. the guy wrote me another email saying he'll up the offer to 49k which is still way too low. I guess I wont be changing cars. oh well, still have a car I can't complain about.

try a different lexus dealer....you guys are lucky that you got the option to go to another lexus dealer, unlike me....only 1 dealer on the island. See what the other dealer says.....besides it won't hurt to ask. that way for sure you'll know if this dealer is cheating you or not.

49k for a 58k sticker car with 3500 miles, personally i think that's pretty reasonable already

but I know I can get at least 55-56k if I sell it privately, maybe even close to 60k. and I dont think its reasonable because they are giving me low figures because they want to make money off both my trade in and the new car. thats just greed. they could give me close to what they will get rid of my car for and still make good money on the new car.

I wouldn't do the trade IMO. Honestly, the Audi dealer by me has an S5 they are giving test drives in. It has around 3000 miles like yours. It is so hard to get an S5 right now, (9 month wait around here) they are still selling that car for list price even with all the miles on it. It is rediculous I know, but I guarantee they sell it. I would just sell it some what below list if it's still in good condition and all. There is such a market for that car right now, I think 44k-49k is easily achievable and surpassable if you ask me.

Good luck with the deal.

That is why you never do a trade in. The dealer always has you on a lopsided deal. They low ball in order to make money on your trade in, when they sell it. I've been told, they make more on selling your trade in then on NEW vehicles. Your better off trying to sell it private party and take your bargaining power back into the dealer and negotiate your best price.

Dealers aren't budging on the IS-F right now, if your smart wait. Given what is going on in the economy, the price of the YEN V US$. you may be better off taking your time selling it private party. Dealers are having a tough time selling vehicles right now. The dealership near me still has the NM-IS-F, and has been sitting on the showroom floor for over a month. Their sales have been WAY down by comparison to last year.

Play it right, your the consumer, and your dollar can buy anything you want, personally I'd wait. THe US consumer is getting the shaft when we buy a japanese auto right now, as I have mentioned above. You'll be paying a premium for the car.

you are talking about trade-in vs private sales, that's apple to orange. you always get more money selling privately anyway, you can't remotely expect a dealership to give you private selling price when you do a trade-in, never...
