Yamaha's experience with cylinder head design and testing is unparalleled. Their experiments with 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 valve per cylinder designs showed the world their engineering prowess and ability to execute. Oddly enough, the 7 valve designs had the best volumetric efficiency, but are impractical for production engines, so the limit has been 5 for a long time. Only recently did they return to the four valve design on the R1, and there have been some complaints in the motorcycle community because they aren't producing power at the levels they advertised.
Still, Yamaha as a company is one of the world's best for cylinder head design and engineering.

2ZZ-GE was primarily built by Yamaha from the ground up. Toyota provided the requirements for it, but was engineered by Yamaha. 8350 rpm rev limit, which is the highest revving Toyota labelled engine.
Having owned this engine for over 13 years, I can say, it is a gem of an engine. It will rev up to 8350 rpm all day long without any issues, very smooth and a very metallic sound more like a sports bike once the needle swings past 6000 rpm.

Not really. Yamaha has tuned a lot of Toyota engines, including the 3SGTE and 4AG engines, as well as the development of the 1JZ-GTE. No biggie. Yamaha is a very reputable company for race tuning.
