Default IS-F driving tips

How are you dealing about these 2 "problems":

1) driving 60+ on highway, want to accelerate as fast as possible. Normally the car would be in 8th gear and it has to drop to the 4th or so to take off fast. In D (even in Sport mode) when I floor it in this situation it will "think" for some fraction of time before it drops to the right gear. Then it does accelerate crazy (even more in the Sport mode). However, this delay (it has been discussed before) is frustrating a bit. In M mode I have to click paddles 4 times at least which again takes a bit of time. Any experience?

2) how do you use paddles in 90 degrees turn? Let's say I want to accelerate from full stop to the turn. In the middle of the turn (especially if it's a right turn) I can not reach "+" puddle to upshift. So, I have to use gear shift on the floor.

Actually it seems that after driving aggressive for a little while it does downshift much better (in D/sport mode) in situations I describe above. Just took it for a ride and it dropped 8->4 much better when I floored. I was driving quite slow until today (just passed 1K miles). Does IS-F transmission have any kind of "learning" features?

i don't have is-f, but here's what i think on driving in general (and i had the "slower" version, the ls460l)

if you are in D and want to punch, might as well just floor it and wait. it's going to be faster than you flipping the stick to D and then down 2 times (when you flip over it goes down to 6 i think)

from the performance driving i have had, you should not be shifting (up or down) when the car is in a turn. it takes the smoothness flow. you should be in the right gear already before you enter the turn until you exit the turn where your steering wheel is almost straight again

I do get annoyed with the first issue you listed. I wish the response was quicker. One time I stepped on it and it seemed like it wanted to just stay in a particular gear despite the revs. The IS350 (when I had it) had better shifting and management.

For issue 2, if I can't reach the paddle, I just push the gear lever up one to upshift. In general I've been able to manage it. Maybe I got used to it. But Sport mode and manual combo is fantastic and is just what I wanted!

In sport mode, after you beat up on it a few hundred miles, it goes straight to the appropriate gear. If I'm cruising in 8th or 7th at 45 mph and I hit the gas, it'll go straight to 2nd gear in sport mode.

It does, indeed. Just sometimes it delays a bit before dropping to the low gear. I tried to floor it for the first time today and the first few times were especially slow. It seems it improved after some agressive driving. However, I need to research it more.

Manual+sport mode is great when I drive aggresively. It works like a charm to keep engine in high rpm. However, if I drive manual in the 8th gear and wants to accelerate, it still takes 4+ click to downshift to the right gear. Probably I just shoud not go above 5th gear in manual

Do we know top speed for each gear?

read the manual....its in there....just forgot the exact speed, but it also mention about the trans, learning your behavior of driving and adapts to you.

My personal experience has been that my tranny has become much smoother and quicker IMO after some serious break in. Im at around 3000 miles and I have learned most of the gear limitations so I know when to shift into each gear depending on what my desired speed and acceleration may be.

It really just takes some time to learn the car, that's it. Don't be discouraged yet. Sometimes the shifting may feel slow, I agree.

Sometimes when turning and shifting i'll use my opposite hand and paddle shift with the wheel upside down. Takes some practice though. Just keep practicing.
