I already have a chip on mine, I touched it up. Lots of highway driving for me. My previous IS350 had the same problem...

Sickening isn't it? Wonder if I should have them put on one of those spray on bra jobs.

I had the clear bra installed on my car before I even drove it off the lot. Where abouts in NE are you from?

Ever since manufacturers were required to switch to water-based paints, every car has had this problem of soft paint. This is why I waited to drive my IS F much until I had Clearbra put on.

Smile Clear bra?

Are those thin transparent films? If so their effectiveness against rocks might be limited. Where do you get those installed? Also, can you really take them off before you sell the car (I would think that the gloss or the color of the paint below might be slightly different after you take it off, like when you take a sticker off that has been there for a long time)?

Any feedback of those experienced with the matter is appreciated.

As for your car, ub2slow2, it's possible you got several chips at once (it happened to me with my previous car). I believe the paint job is not the problem. What color is your car and what color are the chips?

i gotta clear bra installed on my car the first week i got it. It's definitely saved my hood/bumper/headlights from numerous rock chips. Best mod/investment ever.

Its messed up on how on my bimmer, i accidentally bumped a car next to me with my car door and did nothing to that car and chipped the paint on my own door. Paint these day suck. Any reason why they were forced to switch to water-based?

Let me know how this can be fixed, to my knowlege a chip requires to clear coat the area ( plus some paint work), not a cheap job.
Good luck.

To quote auto channel:

"Back in 1999, Toyota Motor Corp. started to shift top coat painting for its automobile lines in Japan from organic-solvent paints to metallic water-borne paints as part of its goal to reduce volatile organic compounds (VOC). The company has just completed the rollout at its Motomachi plant.

The rollout completion, which is part of the automaker's Third Toyota Environmental Action Plan, has reduced emissions to an average of 30g/m2. Toyota plans to go even further to reducing VOC emissions to 25g/m2 by the year 2010 by switching to the water-borne paints to the middle coat and bumper painting lines.

Both Ford and Mazda have developed new paint procedures to deal with the VOC issues as well. "

Check out:

Everyone in southern CA goes to Aerotect, which is a CL sponsor. $1350 for the complete IS F package.

yep- the new paint that Lexus is more sensitive to rocks and prone to rock chips.

in fact, here's a poll taken by quite a few 2is owners and over half complained about rock chips.

to find a clear bra shop near you - check out www.clearbrafilms.com. if you're lucky enough to be in so cal, check out aerotect - they are a vendor here and have some special promo prices for CL members.

good luck!
