Since the torque converter is only used in manual and in first gear I am assuming that the best acceleration times can only be obtained in manual mode then? Were those 0-60 or 1/4 mile tests made by the car magazines done in manual or in auto?

Anyone knows? Also I am not sure I understand about the upshift times in manual mode. The 0.2 sec of computer thinking is only for auto, isn't it (because in manual the user selects the gear, which most of the time is one up or one down and that does not require software thinking?) If it's not then the 0.1 sec upshift time would be misleading?

Any info on this? Thanks.

The shifts are in .1 seconds, regardless of auto or manual mode. The .1 seconds is the amount of time it takes the transmission to engage the next gear

sorry tcoury but your wrong..the shifts are only .1 second in M mode...in auto its about 0.3...thats why if you notice, if you floor it in auto you will notice a minor delay when it shifts gear but in M mode, virtually no delay.. try it out and you will see

and foup, the 0.2 second shift time is reffered to the down shift.. when you downshift at high rpm, the engine goes to neutral and then shifts to the appropriate rpm according to your speed...this is what causes the minor delay resulting in the 0.2 downshift time..and to awnser your other question...yes the best acceleration times can only be reached in manual mode.. i think there is a youtube video where a IS- F owner is using the GTEC and he makes 3 passes 2 in manual and one in auto...from 0-60.. i beleive his two times in manual where 4.5 and 4.6....in auto it was 4.8

Ok, that makes sense: 0.1 sec upshift in manual, 0.2 sec downshift in manual and 0.3 sec in any gear change in automatic. Was this info published somewhere by Lexus or is that just various interpretations I have seen here and there?
Thanks.
