I saw it at SEMA and would not touch it. Horrible weave, the details are lacking. It does not belong on a car of this refinement. Its a classic wet layup with too much gelcoat, but then again, I am picky.

Got pics of that? I've got a Seibon hood and I think the weave is decent, but maybe I just haven't seen a really good CF hood. However, it surprises me that Seibon would show up to SEMA with a sub-par product. And for only $650, I'd expect wet carbon fiber.

They don't have any pics up on their site of the F hood but $650 for a hood seems a little on the cheap side, I thought it would be more then that

Good info Fig. I also saw the same F (from SEMA) at a casino when I was in Vegas that weekend. It had the carbon fenders, trunk and hood and I didn't like the way it looked when I got up close; but I will wait to see if someone gets one and what they think as well as I would like to see some close up pics

The one in the booth had this silver tinsel, like on a christmas tree that make the uneven weave even more apparent. I think I need to llok through my pics but I must have not snapped it. I have a pic of the trunk fitment though. Not impressed.

Thanks for the pic - I see what you mean. My hood isn't that bad, fortunately. However, I thought I read someone's post that said a slightly uneven weave is how you can tell that it's real CF (as opposed to a CF print).

Thoughts?

the IS-F's hood is already aluminum so i'd just leave it be. no point in swappin' for a carbonfibre piece unless you just want it for cosmetic purposes.

CF products are too costly IMO.

I would bet any weight difference would come at the comprimise of structure with wet layup and fiberglass backing. I true carbon hood should offer both, weight and strength superiority to Aluminum. Also expect it to run in the $1500-$2000 range, this is just what this stuff costs to do properly. Seibon serves a market and that is the cosmetic low budget crowd. That is why I wonder if it really works on this segment of vehicle. MY take on the weight of the seibon hood was that it did feel light on the 0-60 car in the lexus booth, but it also felt very flimsy. Hood was held up with one of the OEM struts which of course is the same for the stock hood (it is light enough for one), but when you touched it it felt like it was a potato chip...lots of waves.

CF w/O structure is just the fail, why bother. A prepreg layup would hit 5-7lbs...but that would only be about half the weight of the aluminum OEM which I estimate at 15lbs similar to the MKIV supra. Just food for thought, there are better things to spend money on. But everyone has their own wallet to decide with
