I hope that this is a great upgrade! i just dont think that for me its realistic to do an upgrade for 4000 plus dollars and not see a tangible item. You know what i mean? i would rather spend and get same power on intake exhaust and learn to tune it like my sti myself or even do a supercharger!

Can he send you stickers? Those are tangible enough?

I guess it wouldn't matter to me but I do sort of understand what you are saying. There's nothing to point to and say "See... that right there is what makes F drive so sweet!".

ECU/TCU Tuning > Intakes/Exhausts as far as power/torque gains.

Andy,

Can one get their ECU tuned then come back later and have the TCU tuned? Other then shipping costs and having to sit around and wait are there any other drawbacks?

That is entirely possible, seperate ECU and TCU tunes. Seperately ECUs are $2000, TCUs $2500. No other drawbacks except 2x the downtime.

Thanks
Andy

Andy, can you quickly sum up what we'd miss just getting the ECU reprogramed and not the TCU.......Is there going to be that much difference in performance (ie power) gain if just the ECU is done?
Is it just a matter of the tranny not shifting as well as it could?

I may want to go this route myself.

Cheers
Colin.

Colin,
In summation what you'd miss not doing complete driveline tuning:

Quicker/faster/firmer up and downshifts (custom shift levels 1-10 at WOT), smoother part throttle shifts, no increase in line pressure, no increase in stall converter speed, no elimination of TCU based torque management (meaning you'll never see the same kind of hp/tq as a ECU&TCU tuned version), no increase in shift point rpm and shift points will only be as consistant as stock.
TCUs take longer to code than ECUs, hence the difference in cost.

Thanks
Andy

Wow that's quite a lot isn't it...

I'll probably do something like cssnms suggested and get both done but at different times -- in my case to split the expense up a bit....

Thanks for the explanation.
Colin.

Still waiting...

I was supposed to get both units today, but due to the bad weather up north the delivery was moved to tomorrow. The worst part is that I gave Andy my office address so I could get it right away instead of getting a UPS tag at my door, waste one day, and drive to get it myself from their offices. Now I'll have to wait until Monday because my office is closed tomorrow!!!

Oh well, we have waited for so long to have a Lexus ECU tuned that waiting one more day is nothing. I'll keep you guys posted.
