What I think he is saying is that if after pushing the button to turn the car off, you take your foot off the brake and push the button again it will go to auxillary mode. When you do that the headlights and heater/air conditioner blower remain on until you hit the start/stop button again.
One day when I was polishing my car I was also listening to a "Book on Disk" so I put my car in auxillary. I forgot to change my headlights from automatic to off so after several hours when I went to start it again it would not strart because the headlights were in automatic and had been on all that time running the battery down.

Thank you for the backup that was what I was saying. I work on these cars everyday man I know what I am talking about. Just saying if you accidently left the car on ,but engine off the lights would stay on. Unless you have some defective relay or a corrsion issue which I doubt you might have left the car on. People make mistakes/forget things.....
I went over all the wiring diagrams to see what could cause this last night. There is nothing common that could fail and leave the lights and internal fan on. It would require the BEAN ECU to fail and stay on. The explanation above is pretty plausible. I'm curious what the dealer will find.
lobuxracer, thanks for the even deeper insight. I appreciate the extra work you did looking into this.
SHOLEXMAN, I don't know you from Adam...I was simply asking a question. Obviously you are aware. It's good to know that we have a Lexus tech here that can answer questions, like kalvano can with sales.

CDNROCKIES,
When Karen's BMW 335i had the trouble on the Saturday when she had only 300 miles on it she was pixxed. Turns out that she had not tightened the gas cap sufficiently so she got a Check Engine light about 40 miles after she had filled up.
When they checked out the code they determined that was the problem. She was a little embarrased but was happy that nothing significant was wrong with her car. She now had about 12k miles on it an nary another problem. BTW she was cussing her car when it happened because she thought it was too new to be having problems.

That sucks. On a side note though my ISF after not driving for over a month was dead when I tried to start it. Seemed like a interior light was left on that I didnt notice. It was cold also. I just pulled the truck up and jumped it and then proceded to drive around with the ISF to charge the battery back up. Since then I havent had any problems with it. This did seem kinda weird since this car I think should shut off lights and such to save the battery.
You should have been fine just jumping it and driving home.

Thanks again guys for the discussion.
The dealer is waiting for a new battery to come in this afternoon and will then test the car out.
As far as jumping it and then taking it to the dealer, please keep in mind that it would have been a 45 km drive home and then another 150 km to get back to the dealer. And who's to say it would have started again in the morning. It was 1 am in the dark, with 40 km/h winds at below 0 celsius weather. Again, maybe being over-cautious.
I do have a question for you car tech guys. Some of you suggested that when I exited I may have left the car in auxillary mode. If that had been the case, when I returned to the car and pushed the start button again, wouldn't that have killed the auxillary mode and completely shut down everything? There was enough power to have the lights on at a dim level, so wouldn't that been enough to at least turn it off?
The fan motor was still running even after it was placed on the flat bed after trying to use the push button start to shut it off.

another way to leave it in aux mode inadvertently is by shutting off the car in gear with the push button. the engine will be off, and the radio and what not will still be on believe. maybe thats another possibility. hopefully they figure out wahts wrong, i am curious as well!

The more I think about this the more it sounds like it could be the PRNDL switch - either a switch failure or a bad wire/connector. The start switch logic is heavily dependent on knowing if the transmission is in park or not, and without this working, the ECM could have got very confused about what you really wanted to do. If the gearshift isn't indicating PARK, the engine start switch is pretty crippled.

So I guess the law of averages finally had to catch up with some IS F owners....I'm just severely po'd that it had to be me.
It's 4 am right now, and I am posting this after spending the last several hours getting my F loaded up on a flat bed to be trucked back to the dealership in the city.
My wife and I had gone out tonight for dinner and then headed out to the casino. Car drove fine to and from dinner so nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We spent a couple hours at the casino and when we came out I noticed that it seemed like the lights were still on. That seemed weird, so I checked and they weren't. I popped the hood and discovered that the fan was still running. Needless to say, there wasn't enough power to start the car, but somehow there was enough power to run the fan continuously. (It was still on when the flatbed left). The F is being taken to the tow company's compound for a couple days until they can get it into the dealership Monday morning.
I became even more angry after being told by Lexus roadside that we were on our own to find a way home. We were 45 km from our town, in the middle of freakin' nowhere. Their explanation was that yes, we did have coverage for transportation home....but only if we were 80 km or more away. What a load of bs!
We'll see what happens on Monday after I chat with the dealership and Lexus of Canada. As a side note, I still don't have the whole caliper gouging issue resolved with both of the Alberta dealerships. Ironically, I have test drives on Monday with both BMW and Benz.
Sorry for the long winded rant, but I am extremely frustrated at the moment. If I was ok dealing with crap like this I would be driving an M3 instead.

Well guys, I got the vehicle back a little while ago and, no surprise they couldn't detect anything or repeat it. They replaced the battery and then tried leaving the lights on auto and shutting it down and so far no problems.
I did play with the aux mode when I got it back. When you use aux mode, the push button turns orange, instead of green when you're running it. There was no light on the button when we exited, something we surely would have noticed as it is fairly bright orange.
I also brought up with my SA your suggestion about it being left in auxillary mode. He stated that in auxillary mode the engine fan should not be running regardless of the car being on or not. It may stay on when the engine is very hot (it wasn't...we had only driven a half hour to get there at regular highway speed), but should shut off once the engine cools down.
They could offer no explanation why the engine fan would have remained on like it did.
So we'll see if it happens again...like MHP said....maybe just one of those electrical gremlins. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.
If any of you think the tech is not right, I would appreciate any more explanations you can think of for future reference.
